U.S. Marines fire a Howitzer providing defensive fire for Camp Fallujah in Iraq (Daniel J. Klein, USMC)
Falluja Me Once, Shame on Me....
On Sunday night, interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi enforced a state of emergency in much of Iraq, this was to offset any violence caused by the assault on Falluja by 10,000 US soldiers and Marines backed up by 2,000 Iraqi troops. The battle for this insurgent stronghold is seen as vital to Iraq’s transition to democracy, however reports coming out of the city are sketchy at best.
