Patriot Games

Friday, September 12, 2003

In a speech two days ago, on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary, President Bush said the Patriot Act isn’t strong enough, despite the fact that many critics who think the Act as it now stands is eroding civil rights. We’ll debate the merits of this post-9/11 legislation. Then, what is the sound of one punk-rocking, monster-movie-making, Zen Master teaching? Well, it’s not the sound of your mother’s Buddhist master. Here’s a spiritual teacher who wants to be reborn as a pair of Lucy Liu’s panties! It’s the New Age meets hardcore. Also, creative writing from people whose voices aren’t normally heard—the poor, the homeless, and the mentally ill, among others.
