We received numerous listener emails about today's segment proffering career advice for college students and recent graduates. Here's what a few listeners had to say:
Subject: Graduate
As a philosophy major, women studies minor I thought myself a pretty enlightened guy. However I made the mistake of looking with disdain on all the people taking classes in the business school. I therefore never took an economics or statistics class. That was a big mistake, not just professionally but intellectually. I found that I could participate only partially in serious social and political discussions after graduation. To all of today's liberal arts majors, I would encourage you to take an economics class.--D.
Subject: college majors
An english major says: use your college years to find out what you love; and make sure you read and write VERY WELL - once you're on the job market, you will find ways to use it. --J.
Subject: Advice to new college students - look for great teachers and great environments
What matters most in college are your experiences and relationships. Beware of mediocre teachers and lack-luster work environments. If you have a specific major in mind, make sure there is at least one top-notch professor in that field. If you don't know what you want, than make sure that the setting will be inspiring or provide a lot of opportunity to interact with new people and ideas. --M.
Subject: Current College Discussion
...Tell prospective students to not let grades or assignments get in the way of "life" lessons. Go to a lecture or a reading rather than study that one night. Or get a radio show and play the music that you love for two hours some morning, regardless of how tired it might make you. Don't get so caught up in your grades; future employers will be able to see your passion and well-roundedness. --J.
Subject: Interesting Site for College Majors - from Lehman College
In an attempt to assist my nephew who is undecided in terms of a major,
I found this website from a search. This is from Lehman College: What can I do with this Major? --J.

As a history major who went back to graduate school, I am much happier
living in my basement apartment in Jersey, eating Ramen noodles at age
26, than I ever was at my horribly boring, but well paying, job for an
education policy think tank. --K.
