To: GARY FROM QUEENS...and EDWARD FROM WASHINGTON HEIGHTS AKA PRETENTIOUS HUDSON HEIGHTS-
THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTARY.....it reads well long after this show's mindless, self-righteous, radically egalitarian spin and ant-Semitic listeners' comments are over.
Parts for GM cars should be manufactured IN the US. Not Mexico, China, UK.
The US needs the jobs. Let the other countries take care of their own.
When "fact-checking" isn't.
I bristle when politicians make predictions about the future, especially when stated as declarative facts. However, I suppose it is an occupational hazard, as we wouldn't want to listen to them add a long list of caveats and conditions.
But when it comes to "fact-checking", please be advised that you can't "fact-check" predictions about the future... except in retrospect, of course.
While I appreciated David Sanger's comments, please call future discussions about future predictions as "analysis"... not "fact-checking"!
@Sheldon
You don't get it (as per normal). The taxpayers have lost $25 billion from the GM "investment"----as Obama calls gov bailouts and giveaways to cronies.
GM broken up would have been profitable, and other jobs would have opened up in these aftermarket industries. A net gain in jobs from new investment opportunities.
BUT God forbid an autoworker must be forced to fins another career like the rest of us mortals.
CLARIFICATION:
I have to clarify and expand my previous remarks about Afghanistan not being "our longest (hot) war". The United States actually started sending military advisers to Viet Nam to assist the French reestablish colonial control in 1950. The December 1961 NYC demonstration I participated in was against Kennedy's decision to greatly increase that number in 1961/1962. We had 12,000 "military advisers" in Viet Nam by the end of 1962, and things escalated from there. We were not out of Viet nam until 1975.
It seems from the recent stories that the mission to "kill" (the pretext of "capture" has been dropped) bin Laden was much more successful than any effort to "bailout" the fortunes of "General Motors". The GM stock price is comparable to Facebook's in the value lost since its November 2010 government "IPO" and it has recently lost its #1 spot to Toyota as the later has recovered from the natural disasters it recently suffered.

In addition GM's marquee "green" technology, the VOLT, is going to have another pause in production (although we are assured that this has nothing to do with anemic "sales/ profit" performance.

Let's hope that the as yet to be marketed "Impala" avoids the marketing errors that befell the "Dart"

(Might be a story "Brian Lehrer" producers would want to prepare their spin for. ;-) )
Taher from Croton on Hudson,
May all your jihads turn into Nakbas!
Recall Dr. Strangelove rebuking the Russian ambassador for failing to announce to the world that the Soviets had a doomsday machine.
The whole idea of having a deterent effect on potential attackers is to make sure they know you have a deterent capability, and the will to execute it. Otherwise, why else would they be deterred from attacking?
Obama has NEVER designated a red line ultimatum to iran. that's why iran has been steadily enriching uranium and building missiles to carry a nuke to Israel.
The only red lines Obama has drawn was to threaten israel from attacking Iran.
Any real Jew who supports this pro Muslim, Jew-hating mutt is an idiot.
QUOTE
Obama administration rhetoric about toughening the sanctions is about as credible as politicians promising to cut the budget via eliminating waste and corruption. The sanctions have been undermined by the more than 10,000 exemptions handed out by the Treasury Department to businesses to maintain ties to Iran as well as the president’s pass given to China to keep importing Iranian oil. That’s not counting the various measures the Iranians have come up with to evade the sanctions via smuggling and financial sleight-of-hand. Nothing short of a full economic boycott and blockade of Iran is called for, but we all know that isn’t happening. So any further discussion of sanctions is merely a diversion intended to distract us from the fact that the current policy has failed.

Obama’s Plans Won’t Soothe Israel’s Fears

BRIAN, Time to get fact checkers who are not Democrats.
Obama supports every provision that leads to israel's destruction.
Obama removed from the platform that Jerusalem is the undivided capital of Israel, and opposition to Pal socalled "right of return". read prev posts.
And he's publicly warning Israel not to attack iranian nuke sites, and consistently refuses to establish a red line deterence---which means there is no deterence by this admin.
If all THAT doesnt say "F--k you Israel", please tell me what does?!
Edward from Washington Heights AKA pretentious Hudson Heights
Happy Rosh Hashanah 2012. Enjoy!!!!!!!! Mazel Tov.
"if the government sells it's remaining stock now" Thanks Gary. And what was GM's stock 3 years ago, when the Govt first had it?
I'm sick of this. This is the 3rd time the BL show got this wrong. Obama initially wanted these pro israel platform items gone!!!

PS
The troops Kennedy sent to Viet Nam in December 1961 of course were called "advisors"
Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Koran.
When praying, Muslims face towards Mecca, their backs to Jerusalem.
@ Marcello
Shhhhhhh! You are making too much sense and therefore ruining the premise of this incredibly stupid biased segment
Taher from Croton on Hudson,
Happy Nakba!
Back to the topic.
Iran.
What’s China and Russia’s position on continued American presence in Afghanistan?
The Iran isue? They are always out of conversation.
Why is Afghanistan always referred to as "our longest war"? Kennedy sent troops into Viet Nam in December 1961 at which time I was in a small demonstration in lower Manhattan to oppose that engagement -- perhaps the first demonstration against our involvement in Viet Nam. We did not get out of Viet Nam until 1975.
yeah, let's fact check the President, his Campaign Managers had NO idea that people would do that today.
It would be great if you could ask your guest how are obama's claims "mostly false" if the us leaves garrisoned troops behind. he just said that it would be similar to the american presence in europe or corea.
could one conceivably claim that the mere presence of american troops in europe and corea means that those wars are still actively fought?
They're talking about "hot" wars...or actual wars..not the cold war. The cold war was not a sustained armed conflict
Yes, "MR. FACT-CHECKER", GM is indeed "alive". And the UAW is alive and kicking back some of the wealth from taxpayers to the obama campaign.
But the compan's stock value is down, and taxpayers are still out $25 billion if the government sells it's remaining stock now.
Actually the withdraw of Iraq was agreed before this administration took office, via the "status of forces agreement"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S.–Iraq_Status_of_Forces_Agreement
But at least the current administration made sure it happened...
didn't these deadlines for withdrawal come during the bush administration? I always thought bush set the date...Also, wasn't the cold war the longest?
