I found it amusing that when Brian assumed that Naomi didn't support Romney, she was automatically going to support Obama. Naomi, being a principled Liberal (unlike Brian), holds Obama accountable for his Fascist policies (not giving speedy trials to prisoners, signing of the NDAA) as well as holding Republicans accountable for their Fascist policies.
...Wolf was ATTENDING the "Game Changer of the Year Award" event in front of which, OWS was protesting Governor Cuomo's refusal to reinstate the "millionaires tax".
Attend and exploit.
Convenient PR stunt.
Pathetic.
Thank you Brian and Ms. Wolf. Your findings could go a long way in strengthening relationships and increasing happiness and self esteem in men and women.
Brianna. (must be better with names)
...get OWS "arrested".
Any opportunity to bring attention to one's self.
Low response here, why? Low hormone Low hormone listeners?
I don't know how to say it, other than that the author's story about the pinched nerve reminds me of General Ripper from Dr. Strangelove, who turned his feelings of "lack of essence during the love act" into the premise of an entire conspiracy theory (leading to the end of the world, in his case, which I doubt this book will lead to).
And can men AND women writers and politicians let us speak for our own vaginas, for goodness sakes? What is up with everyone speaking on behalf of my reproductive system, left and right, these days?
Naomi Wolf: Paradigm of self-serving narcissist.
Can't believe anyone reads or listens to her.
zzz.
Brenda,
I like how the show "How I Met Your Mother" nearly balanced out the characters. One male, one female are both faithful marrieds, aaand, one male, one female are both player 'skanks'. Life is much like that, much balance, at least at this moment in history.
@Brenda from New York City: Nuts!
I recently read a book titled (something like) "The Folly of Fools" about deceit, self-delusion and the like. It was written by a evolutionary biologist.
In it, the author cites authenticly scientific studies that show that in general, wealth/ambitious men cannot read facial emotions and show empathy as well as non-wealthy men or women.
Women do not seem to be affected nearly to that degree or at all in their ability to read emotion on others due to money.
But it occurred to me that that was the wrong comparison. It seems that they ought to use beauty instead of money when it comes to women -- that's their currency. I'll bet they find the same correlation for beautiful women, when it comes to empathy and the like.
The vagina is ONE part of the vulva. Can we stop mislabeling our own genitalia? Using the term "vagina" in serious writing or in a monologue perpetuates the ignorance. No one is mislabeling male genitalia are they?
Thanks for the off-putting question, Brian. It's shock value for sales, so a pushback was warranted.
@Brianna Heller-
Not doubting that there are plenty of men who see things that way, but let's be fair- there are just as many women who see men as walking ATMs.
The vagina is not the issue. It is men and their focus on it to stubbornly categorize women into "just fun" and "fun and marriageable" camps based on how many other men have accessed it for fun in the past.
