Just a curious note of possible interest note. Both Ireland and Israel have roughly the same sized populations and the same sized economies (over $200 billion annually). Both have attracted US high technology companies. And both have relatively large diasporas living overseas. And both had to fight for independence and both have had a history of terror and counterterror.
Last year saw Gabriel Byrne as the Irish cultural ambassador and a great emphasis on Irish arts as one way to save Ireland and bring her back to good health.
Can President Higgins talk about the plans for 2012 on that front?
