I certainly would vote for Anthony Weiner. His past behavior was immature and lacked judgement, but his overall job skills and commitment for people like me pass the test. He's a fighter and fights for the things that mean something for the 99%.

I would vote for Anthony Weiner. I have attended meetings where the Congressman gave his views on social subjects as well as keeping the community informed on his advocacy on their behalf. I believe he would be no less involved in running the city or any position he would take. As to his personal difficulties I think he is smart enough to get help and has tamed his problems. Other politicans have come back Example Newt who sought the presidency.

I am afraid that I no longer trust him. I would never vote for him.

It's not that what he did was so very "sinful," it's that it was so stupid! That's reason enough not to vote for him for any public office. People in public office make decisions that affect us all. His judgement has been revealed to be dreadful!

Weiner should not have resigned for "sexting" but, him lying to our face, when he didn't have to, was very disappointing.

I agree that elected officials should be truthful and have integrity... but we haven't seen honesty and integrity in politics in decades. All politicians lie, especially the ones that are currently in office.

I think inappropriate behaviors, like affairs, are rampant among our public servants - and not just elected officials. I can name a handful of police officers, captains, lieutenants - cheating on their spouses with subordinates while sitting literally across the hall from the Commish. If that's socially acceptable behavior, why hold the Congressman to a different standard? He didn't even take it all the way, to our knowledge.

I support Mr. Weiner definitely. Most of men cheats. For Mr. Weiner, he didn't cheat. Showing his penis on a webcam is embarrassing but most guys dose. What important is that Mr. Weiner speaks for us or not!

I'm a card carrying feminist and I don't care what any politician does in bed (or on his cell) .. I didn't care what Clinton did. It's an unfortunate side effect of having that much power. I think we should concentrate on what they do in the positions we elected them to.

So, he's human? And he is one of the most articulate spokesperson for progressive thought. I was thrilled to hear his voice and brain again when you interviewed him a week or so ago.

If it was someone else, the fact that he lied to cover his bad behavior would prevent me from supporting him for office again. But because of Weiner's amazing intelligence, command of language and pure guts (demonstrated repeatedly on the floor of Congress - see YouTube) on behalf of progressive causes, and willingness to call out the Repubs on their b.s., I'd give him a pass and vote for him for anything. We all make mistakes and frankly I don't care about his sex life.

I am a woman, and would vote for him without a problem. He is the only democrat who has the testicular fortitude to call it like it is against the republicans and make the case for the liberal cause. We're too easily "offended". He has done nothing new, and which happens every day but we may not be aware.

As much as I want anyone but Christine Quin, Weiner is a non-starter. The way he handled the scandal was worse than the "crime." I'd rather have Eliot Spitzer come back to politics. At least he seems to have gained humility since his fall.

why not allow him to go ahead and run, war chest or not. aside from this social indiscretion, he served his constituency well, and was a voice for new york that was out in front on crucial issues.

while serving is a privilege, it can also serve as way of atoning. i didn't think he should have bowed out--whatever advice he took was done in haste. but perhaps a mayoral run is a bit of an initial jump; better to prove oneself in a more grounded role.

I don't care about Anthony Weiner's sex life. However, there was something Clinton-esque about the way he handled everything, as CG pointed out. If he had shown contrition - "it's my private life, but it was stupid and I apologize to my wife for dragging her through it and to my constituents for embarrassing the district," I might forget about it. But he was so unwilling to acknowledge it that I can't vote for him.

I don't think he should run at all. The problem with Anthony Weiner is that he is a talker not a doer. The entire purpose that he served in Congress was to vocally advocate for the left. He didn't sponsor lots of bills, he wasn't a deal maker; he wasn't a workhorse. So when your whole job is to be a figure and a voice on tv, your reputation is the only thing you have, and there's nothing to fall back on.

Weiner had fire, gumption, and wasn't a hack when articulating issues...

The current crisis in American politics is mostly driven by politicians' unaccountability and condescension to the citizenry. There were once great prospects for Weiner. But -- after behaving incredibly recklessly -- he bold-faced lied to us. We simply cannot sanction that -- if this democracy is to function. But it's a shame.

Walk before you run. He's better off starting as running for public advocate. He's still young and healthy (as shown by his relatively recent photos, haha) and the mayoral office will be there for him down the line.

I wouldn't consider supporting Anthony Weiner's candidacy for dog catcher. He appears to be a liar ("My twitter account was hacked!"); he is selfish ("I am not going to resign"); and, although I don't care about his personal life, he seemed to use his position to cultivate sexually charged relationships with women. Shouldn't his break from politics be long enough that he can plausibly claim to have changed?

Yes! I've missed him so. But, The title Mayor Weiner doesn't sit well with me. A less prominent post to start would be more appropriate.

Anthony Weiner should return to elected office, and I believe he shouldn't have resigned in the first place. Who cares what he does in his private sex life! The only downside to having him as mayor is he wouldn't be in Washington where he was one of the few Democrats with the ability to effectively call out Republican hypocrites.

I think Weiner is a great politician but I have a queasy feeling about him.

Sadly, though, I feel much less queasy about Weiner than I do about Christine Quinn, his likely challenger. Weiner was unfaithful to his wife and a liar about his sexual proclivities.

Quinn, on the other hand, fully disregarded the popular vote of New Yorkers who asked for term limits three times, in elections. And she kept saying "okay, you can't possibly mean you actually want term limits, let's have a do over," etc.

So I take her transgressions much more seriously, since she seems to love power more than the popular will of the citizens of New York.

I think it's a shame that he behaved so recklessly that it derailed and overshadowed the great work he was doing, and I have no doubt he has learned his lesson and could resume doing that great work. But I worry that there aren't enough people who think the same way I do, and his campaign efforts would be wasted. But even if he can't win, maybe it's worth running anyway so that he can get his reemergence into public life over with, and then *next time* people won't just have one thing on their mind when he runs.

If Weiner has good ideas about how to reform ALL of NYC's government, including the NYPD and introducing the concept of democracy, accountability and transparency across all government agencies as well as ideas for diversifying the economy of the City I will vote for him.

I hope Congressman Weiner returns to public service. I think he was a wonderful congressman who understood issues and was able to convey his thoughts with clarity. Many in government are fools and do this country a disservice with their inability to serve the public. I was unhappy to hear of his resignation and hope he is able to put the incident in the past. He has my vote.
