Satirist and writer Mo Rocca introduces his new series "My Grandmother's Ravioli" in which other people's grandmother's teach him how to cook. Grandmother Ruth Teig, also joins the show to describe how she taught Mr. Rocca to cook traditional jewish foods.

Stone soup is the soup where you add a bunch of stuff you have lying around (essentially, though there's a fable behind the name).
The reason Jewish people react to "ham" is because in the early centuries Jews were persecuted because they wouldn't eat ham. There are a few early artwords shwing Jews being beheaded because they wouldn't eat ham and this I believe has come down as part of the Jewish psyche.
Are today's grandparents or even parents no longer the repository of heirloom cooking?

Hey Mo! I'm a fellow half-Colombian-American. Any idea why Colombian food is so bland and heavy on fried and starchy foods? My grandma will freak out if I put the least bit of garlic, spices or even black or bell pepper—never mind chili pepper—in anything ("OH NO! Now no one can eat it!"). Maybe the conquistadores killed all the indigenous cooks in Colombia and imported British ones? Do you have a Colombian episode for your show planned?
