Whichever reporter fixes on this topic will get the traction. but the way the guest tossed it out there seemingly non-chalantly made me guess that he has already tried to make it stick but for some reason his editor shot him down. Which makes me (and possibly Brian) wonder whether where the real truth lies...

I don't understand how this isn't the biggest news story of all. People are being watched non-stop and private companies have access to all this information and the only answer your guest could give as to why was (paraphrasing here) "they may need the info because they may be the target of a terrorist attack."
Based on that assumption shouldn't EVERY American citizen have access to this information? Anyone could be the "target" of a terrorist attack. The whole point of a terrorist attack is to instill fear in a populace.
Oh and best thing is, they say it's for the safety of everyone, but then they turn around and attempt to make a profit on it. If it was for the good of the people (which it's not) shouldn't it be given away freely? Why waste our tax dollars on something we don't want (or at least haven't voted on)?
Soon enough people will be getting black bagged by the Thought Police for just thinking against the norms...
Within days of traffic surveillance camers being installed in Newark, they were shot. Apparently, the shooter monitors any attempts at repairs and routinely diables the cameras quite promptly. Believe there may be a current report on this in the weekend's Star Ledger. Mutatas mutandas?
To answer an earlier caller's question, those orange lights on top of street lights are to signal a nearby emergency callbox. Each time you spot one of those lights you should see a nearby callbox, though it may have been flattened by a truck.
The last caller wondered what the thermos sized orange or red lights were on the top of lamp posts. They are to indicate a corner where there is (or was) a fire alarm box.
Got it now -- another trading edge for Goldman Sachs.
I'll assume that Bloomberg is not among the millions of Americans who consider one or more of the institutions with access to this apparently valuable spy information as the scariest & most persistent terrorists of all.
your guest has no idea why these private businesses are sitting right there at police headquarters.. You need bring Bloomberg or Kelly on the show to answer questions as to why they are spying on us for no legitimate reason.
The question is simple: Do we want to live in a society where everyone is watched all the time. This question can and must be considered apart from any issue of inconvenience or crime-fighting usefulness. It is a moral question about how we want to live together and what sort of society is worth protecting.

This is more than disgusting. There is only one answer...everybody should pull their money out of banks and Goldman Sachs etc and make sure these institutions die.
DID I JUST HEAR YOUR GUEST CORRECTLY? that Private businesses are there at police headquarters and have access to the same surveillance information that the NYPD has?
It's bad enough that the NYPD is now a political surveillance organization but to have private enterprises with unimpeded access to surveillance data is troublesome!!
