Peacetime? Does Congresswoman Hayworth really believe we are in peacetime? Unbelievable.

After Congresswoman Hayworth's last visit, Brian promised us followup. I hope the Energy Dept's loan program is on the list for next followup Friday.

I agree 100% with Congressman Pascrell and wish that Brian had taken him up on his offer to remain on the line and debate (my) Congresswoman Hayworth.

I agree with all above comments re: the "peacetime" Nan Hayworth lives in...also, I live in Orange County and although there is a lot of destruction, please be sure to confirm details before reporting them and confusing your listeners. I have been driving through Tuxedo on Route 17 for much of the week. I believe a portion of Tuxedo (East Tuxedo) does not its bridge, as reported on the town of Tuxedo's website. But Tuxedo is a pretty big town and most of have it has been traversible all week.

Why does Brian, usually such a smart,
incisive interviewer always let Hayworth get away with her partisan spin? It is one thing to let someone have their say,
it is quite another to let them spout baloney !

I wish there had been a follow up question when congresswomen Hayworth said that there is lots of "statistical evidence" showing that dollars withheld from government services are more effectively used when retained by a few private citizens. What is this evidence? Studies show, for example, that much of the revenue diverted to the wealthy via the the Bush tax cuts was hoarded and not put back into the broader economy in a significant way at all. I get so aggravated when politicians say something is "fact" or that there's evidence for something, when the historical record demonstrates otherwise. It's doublespeak, and should be challenged whenever idealogical leaders try to slip these unsubstantiated claims into their patter.

It is truly outrageous to hear a member of Congress characterize this as a peacetime economy. We have just been told that 60 billion dollars were just plain lost in the wars through incompetence, cronyism, and general corruption, yet she pointedly excludes the Defense dept. from scrutiny.

Nan Hayworth said that spending levels were unprecedented during peacetime. She did not specifically say that we were in peacetime. It's kind of like pointing out that you don't need an umbrella if it isn't raining while you're getting soaked by a thunderstorm. It's technically true, highly misleading, and totally irrelevant.

Also, obviously Federal govt. doesn't spend money the best in every case, but at least it's one for one and sometimes mutiples of that (e.g., water infrastructure $1 spent, $3 multiplier effect-underestimate). Essentially the Federal can spend money that has a multiplier effect.

I can't stand it anymore!!! Why is our debate always stuck on what the government should and should not be doing? Open the discussion up to the larger picture. Like the business community does, as they create or destroy thens of thousands of jobs: look at US jobs AND overseas jobs. They have two lists on their desk: cost of US factory, cost of Chinese factory. THey save money by sending thousands of jobs to a new facility in China -- and it is the responsiblity of the press to report on BOTH fronts. How many jobs were created in China versus US last month? How many US firms created jobs in China and elsewhere last month?

Congresswoman Hayworth continues to babble nonsense conservative talk show talking points instead of answering real questions, as she has in all previous appearances on your show. Why do you continue to have her on? At least push her for real answers, and challenge her for specifics.

There seems to be a disconnect among some of the speakers--do they not know that we have been at war for 10 years! We are hardly in "peace time"! The budget reflects what it takes to fight two wars!

Trying to get direct answers from Nan Hayworth is like trying to pick up mercury--it keeps breaking apart and it's poisonous to public discourse.

Interviewers need to get some training in HOW to interview people who will not answer questions, but will only repeat in slightly differing iterations their political talking points.

Listening to her is a total waste of brain cells.

Brian, figure out some questions, practice pinning her down! And when she says she has facts on her side, demand citations, sources. Public spending, especially during economic downturns, has been documented to increase available money in the hands of people who MUST spend it -- in order to live. She thinks about people who can pocket it and wait for the next big bubble.

The crux of the issue is not unwise federal spending. Any organization with a large budget will have some unwise spending that can be pointed at. Hayworth does not seem to understand that the government does not remove a dollar from the economy when it collects it in taxes. It respends it and it goes into the pocket of someone else in the private economy. Government spending circulates money, it does not remove it from the economy. An engineer at Lockheed-Martin buys a home, all the applicances and a car from private businesses.

Brian how did you let Nan Hayworth get away with calling this a peace-time economy? This is, on the contrary, the longest war-time economy where we have not raised taxes to pay for the costs.

Congress Member Nan Hayworth just said the spending is unprecedented in peace-time. WE ARE NOT IN PEACE-TIME. We have three military operations running. The GOP has completely forgotten that they started two wars that have lasted a decade.

Either those who experienced the Irene disaster get aid without strings, as has ALWAYS historically been, or they don't.

Hayworth doesn't get it. Plus she doesn't understand American Federalism as it works.
