Lowes pulls their ads from the show All-American Muslim after pressure from anti-Islam groups. Now the chain is facing criticism. Bob Garfield, host of On the Media and author of The Chaos Scenario, discusses the controversy.
That deepicting muslims as good instead of evil gets labeled contraversial by the media-is itself an expression of anti muslim bigotray. to challenge the media;s default position-muslims as terrrorists-should be welcomed by people of good will. instead this program is being labeled controversial-like there are two sides of this story-maybe muslims are evil and should be dipicted that way.The anti- muslim agenda is alive and well -not just among the right but more insidiously so in the main stream and npr media. The anti-semitism of the 21st century is anti arab /muslim and this "contrroversy" exemplifies it.
I disagree. It is not just one man. There is a whole industry that are pushing the work that David Caton started. Look at websites such as Bare Naked Islam, Pam Gellar's Atlas Strugs, and Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch who are cheering David Caton along. FFA is the scapegoat, but there is a core group of people who need to be addressed.
Brian called the Florida Family Association a "group". It is one man. David Caton. Shame on Brian and shame on Lowes.
Brian, you should ask the listeners how many Americans ever been to a Muslim country in their lifetime. We just want to watch different cultures and neighborhood from our couch instead of visit an exotic of different country to see how other people live. It’s time to take reality show off TV. It’s making us even more stupid than we are today and that’s not too difficult.
Be careful calling the Florida Family Association "they" as it is really ONE guy named David Caton. NYT did an article the other day...
If the show really is that bad, maybe they're going for the politically correct demographic.
The internet empowers idiots, much like the 911 truth idiots. This Florida group is one man, with a web site!!!
I am a born again Christian, and anti-Islam groups do NOT represent me. Christians have no business being anti anybody. p.s.: I watch All-American Muslim as well as TLC's 19 Kids and Counting because I enjoy learning about other people, and it is fascinating to watch people live out their faith.
