Man, if Ralph from Farmingdale is against it, so should everyone.
But, seriously, when you dangle "jobs" in front of people - the same people who are voting, do you really think they're envisioning being a concession stand vendor while skipping towards the courthouse, or wherever the vote's taking place?
So sick of subsidizing wealthy people. The Islanders and their management should show some support of the people of Nassau county who have supported them all these years and put their money into the area! We shouldn't have to support them any more than we do already through high ticket prices for games and concerts.
I'm not a county resident, so my opinion doesn't matter for much, but I'm encouraging my parents and grandparents there to vote no. The bottom line is that it's been long settled that giving public subsidies for a sports area is a bad deal for the localities. The team makes a tremendous profit and whatever jobs and taxes it creates come nowhere near recovering the initial payout.
"Stadiums create jobs" is a lie, it rarely ever works, and we should stop throwing money at it.
