Hi, I think it is a great thing that a commoner married Prince William. I think that being a royal, though I am sure it has its drawbacks, is something many women envy and want for themselves. There is nothing wrong with fairy tales. As your guest said, there are too many bad things happening in the world and this is a positive thing. I was dismayed at first when the program began with the segment on the royal wedding (which does not really interest me too much). So it was a pleasant surprise when Jamie Floyd and her guest gave us a thoughtful and even provocative take on the event, instead of fluff and gush. Thank you.

Over a dozen British police officers engaged in a "pre-crime" arrest of a university professor and a street theater group yesterday, in what activists called a "Minority Report"-style crackdown ahead of the royal wedding.

Hey Caroline, I wasted a few minutes reading the piece in Slate that you linked to. I find it amusing to hear someone whining about whining. Isn't the author really guilty about the same kind of thing? And hey there are plenty of outlets where you can find drivel about royal weddings (or Justin Bieber). I like going to NPR for a little respite from all that. Why do you need to drag your cultural floss with you everywhere you go?

This glorification of the glorified-for-no-good-reason turned me off from the start. But caught some of the footage on the morning news and can see how the pomp and spectacle could be...interesting...The best thing about the kiss photo are the reactions of the flower girls. Great!

The Royal Family? What a waste of time. And even on NPR it's impossible to get real news coverage this morning.
