I have never heard of Towns, but even after Powells loss 2 years ago, Powell has remained focused and still very much concerned with the Brooklyn community. I love the idea of having a candidate who cares about the young black boys and battered women. He really care's, i've read some of his articles, and i have at least heard of him. This was all after a loss, that says something about his character and intentions. Vote Kevin Powell!!!!
This is the third time that I heard about Kevin Powell trashing my organization. In baseball, the third strike means you are definitely out!!! Since March 2010, Kevin Powell have not taken time to investigate his own facts; he has not done his homework. He constantly refers to an incorrect and inaccurate Daily News article that was corrected by Channel 11 News a few days later. While I am not commenting on the specifics of his campaign, I have to constantly ask myself the following question: who wants to vote for someone that (1) does not know what he is talking about and (2) continually propagates false/incorrect information to our people. I challenge him to prove that Trinity Community Development and Empowerment Group, Inc. does not exist. Prove that the approximate 700 returnees that we are helping do not exist. Prove that the CDL and passenger driver's education program does not exist. Prove that the HIV/AIDS help did not exist. Prove that our job hiring and placing did and does not exist. Prove that the GED-prep classes do not exist. Prove that our church prison re-entry sites does not exist. Prove that our headquarters does not exist. etc. etc. etc. (See www.trinitycdeg.org for more information.) Kevin is not doing his homework. He sounds like he is doing some of the same things that we are doing. Does this means that his organization does not exist? (Come on, man! Get real!) A true leader validates their respective facts before progating those facts. That alone turns me off from voting for him. I live in East New York and have lived in Oceanhill/Brownsville and have never seen nor heard of him until his he opened his mouth to put his foot in it. We here at Trinity Community Development and Empowerment Group, Inc. gives Kevin an open invitation to see what is it that we do in the 10th Congressional District. I am confident that he will be shocked to see what he called dead is and have been alive and kicking. Or, you can take the "lazy" route and visit our website.
kicked out of rutgers for threatening a woman with a knife... wow... i think violence against men is also important... kevin should address that as well because has also been a part of his history... But the real question is, can he do a better job than Townes?
Mr. Towns sounds very dated and out of touch. 14 terms and consistently not effective? Disgraceful. Student athletes over scholarships for attainable opportunities which affect many more in his district? Wow. And to say you don't know your opponent, almost dismissively? Ridiculous.
Mr. Powell needs to be given a shot, if for nothing else he has a passion for his community after years as an activist and seemingly has an interest in change. Unlike Mr. Towns.
Really, Ed? Student athletes? He makes me sick. Nobody knows who he is. He's done nothing but enjoy his position and all of its amenities.
It is extremely critical to have plans- long term and short term plans in regards to resolving many of the dilemmas our children face everyday, in regards to many of the dilemmas the financially poor face everyday, in regards to many of the dilemmas parents, homeowners, and people of color face everyday. There has to be clear specific plans. I do hear a plan in Congressman Towns' words as far as education is concerned, and I do hear work actually being done in Kevin Powell's words; I wish I can put the experience and knowledge of Towns and the works of Powell together. I've approached Kevin directly in regards to a plan that would create jobs, empower our children greatly, build financial empowerment among the people in our district, and resolve a lot of the issues that plague our district and other districts. Powell couldn't hear me- couldn't see the long term value- Towns did try to help...he can do more to help. So again, I wish I had a Powell-Towns to vote for. Meanwhile, I'm still undecided simply because I do not hear real static deep-rooted plans of action to empower our community from either side. Nevertheless, I'm open to try and communicate with Kevin Powell again, and I hope that this time, he'll actually listen and try to understand our goals. As far as Congressman Towns is concerned, he has the status and power in Congress to make certain changes right now, and he needs to have the plans of action to do this and make it clear to us- the people in his district.
It's time for new leadership. The choice is clear. Kevin Powell for congress! Go Kevin!
This is not my District, but Brian I like your show. By listening to both of these candidates, it is clear that Mr Towns needs to hang up his shoes and exit stage left. I also think that Mr Powell, should be elected, however also the ppl in the 10th hold him accountable for what he say. I think this is probably how they ended up with Mr Towns. Mr Powell appears to have a direct connection with his district and as long as he maintains this connection, I think they(community) will do great things.
Is he serious? First of all, this isn't a debate. I've been in BK for 4 years now and this is the first I've heard from Towns, never seen him at a single debate, let alone SEE him in the district. Who is he? These incumbents in BK always campaign and show up right before the election.
And he's so proud of these athletes. This is a joke. I don't know much about Powell except for the things I've read on his website, but he's clearly a better candidate than this joker.
Towns, you've lost touch with your district, if you ever were in touch. Time has come for some fresh leadership. Heck, how bout just some leadership at all. Powell for the People!
Sad. When you can't succinctly answer the first question...
Nothing you've said made me feel represented, cared for as a constituent.
You spoke nothing of bringing in money or jobs. Not that I have issue with athletes but HELLO! our communities have more than just athletes.
Sir, please, after 14 consecutive lack luster terms......please, leave with grace and dignity.
A bill to protect student athletes? Give me a break! What about jobs? What about the AIDS epidemic? What about education? Clearly, Towns needs to go!
Ed Towns is classic Tammany Hall. He is clearly out of touch following the inept, Charlie Rangel and the bygone Clarence Norman. Student Athletes??? Give me a break! What about the real issues that Mr. Powell brings up...He needs to step aside, he has failed as a leader in nurturing future leaders. His time at the trough is over...Give Mr. Powell a chance to show and prove.
I heard the congressman talk just now and living in the 10th congressional for the last 8 years since coming to the US, I did not know that voice. The congressman is a virtually unknown entity to me.
I am more familiar with the unknown and untested Mr. Powell. That for me is a sad testimony of leadership on the part of this veteran congressman.
end the corn subsidies
