I have long relied on Haroun and the Sea of Stories as a reminder of the power of creativity and my well-worn copy has made the rounds of many artist friends' hands. After selecting it for a book club last February, I was pleased to learn about this upcoming book.
Salman Rushdie's comments about children and parents reminds me of the last verse in the Old Testament: Malachi 4:6: "And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the gearth with a curse."
Brian, since Salman Rushdie was perhaps the first renowned Muslim academician to be accused and convicted of apostasy, you would be remiss not to ask about his views of the ground zero mosque (is it a "fitna"?), the encroachment of Shariah Finance and socalled 'Stealth Jihad in American life, and self censorship by the media on criticism of political Islam.
