Jack- I don't think marriage would have solved that problem. Pedophila and normal adult sexual relations are two different things. Although you do have the point that marriage would have opened the door to a wider group entering the RC minestry. The orthodox church has it right - priests can marry and monastics (those who feel they can attain a celebate plain) are in-line for the arch-bishop and patriarch (pope)positions.
What I’m curious of is will we hear about sexual subjugation and lying in the Bible and the negative aspects of the Judeo-Christian holy book and faith the same way we do of the Qur’an on WNYC when incidents involving Muslims are aired on this station. Child rape seems to be rampant amongst priest and rabbis alike, why aren’t we calling their beliefs into question? Where is the balance of coverage.
How come nuns don't have these problems? Why is it always the priests. Don't nuns have a vow of celibacy? And how come Jesuits don't have this problem. Aren't Jesuit priests or Fryers, Brothers etc.. suppose to be celibate?
Maybe Dolan could spare a little of his compassion for the thousands of children whose lives were destroyed by these pedophiles and there enablers, including the pope.
I am curious to find out how would letting priests marry solve this problem of molestation or pedophila? Don't we have child molestors and pedophiles that are married and with kids?
What did the Catholic Church expect by selecting a right-wing anti-gay ideologue as Pope? Driving people away will dwindle attendance to next to nothing. Maybe then they will reject ultra-orthodoxy and turn to another John XXIII or Paul VI in order to once again embrace God's love.

Isn't the problem here that the Pope no longer has the (moral) authority to discipline other Bishops involved in this problem?
