On June 8-11, I got three messages from the Technical Cyber Security Alert mailing list. They alerted IT security pros to serious vulnerabilities affecting all versions of Adobe Flash Player, Reader, and Acrobat; Microsoft Windows, IE, Office, Sharepoint, and .NET (the web server). "A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code." That means these security flaws could actually permit hackers to compromise (break in to) servers and desktop computers which rely on Microsoft products. That's 90% of American businesses. And yet these alerts got ZERO MEDIA COVERAGE - they are so frequent as to be routine. Whereas, a trivial leak of e-mail addresses, which could create nothing more serious than spam, got headlines even in the general media (who obviously don't understand the threat level at all). I'd suggest that everybody take a deep breath, and do some homework.
C'mon... it's a choice! Put as much or as little as you're comfortable with, on the web. It's nobody's fault but your own if your privacy is "violated".
Email addresses - phone numbers??? What's the difference?? Just know, NONE OF IT IS PRIVATE. IT NEVER HAS BEEN.

How safe it it to use sites like mint.com?
This "leak" is meaningless. It's just email addresses, come on, such things are easiily accessible. This will turn out to be nothing more than free PR for Apple, and mildly elite notariety status for the "early adpoters" involved.

What's the real damage here? As early adopters, aren't the people on this list already barraged with spam and phishing attacks? I know I am and I don't even have an iPad.
