Ok, this probably isn't the most useful comment, but I could not get past how Ms. Sklar pronounced "women" as "woman." I don't understand this, I've never heard this pronunciation of the plural form of the word, so it was a bit jarring and distracting. Am I completely alone in noticing this??
i've spent my entire career in technology and as far as i can gather, most women are simply not interested in computers. the few females that are interested do just fine in the industry. i don't buy that women are being 'sidelined'.
Brian has first-hand personal experience with women's under-representation.
While media is full of women professionals, and women have far superior communications from birth, he works at a radio station that does not produce a single show hosted by a woman.
Love Brian, love Leonard, love John, but why doesn't anyone in a position of power at WNYC know any of the highly-skilled women in media?
I have to say that I have been a partner of Internet Week New York since it's inception in 2008 and all my events have been focused on women...including my event tonight.
In 2008 our breakfast event was entitled "Young Women in Digital Media, With Cool Jobs, Making a Difference" and was a packed house.
In 2009 we hosted an event entitled building a brand in the digital space and 3 of our 4 panelists were women.
This year, our event is tonight at 6pm at Samsung entitled "BRANDING YOUR WAY TO BETTER RELATIONSHIPS: Using the Tools of Social Media" featuring Andrea Syrtash & Ellis Henican evening, June 7th http://bit.ly/smiwny10
at the Samsung Experience at Time Warner Center, 10 Columbus Circle/3rd Floor.
If any WNYC listener is interested in attending, let them come as my guest (I will waive the $25 fee) please have them email me at bill@sobel.com as I am a big supporter of Public Radio and enjoy listening to Brian Lehrer.
I agree that Internet tends to be very male-centric and I have bent over backwards to involve as many women as possible. In addition, I do event every month and always make it a point to both include women as well as focus in topics that are of interest to women as well...even though our monthly events focus on transitions in the media space.

Er...living wages?
(would work for talented men too, I assume)
