Nobody mentioned the long term mental health consequences of this disaster. This is particularly important given the historical trauma from 20th century subjugation of Haitians in D.R. - the country's long term poverty and current state. Trauma counseling needs to be part of disaster relief- is this not part of Partners in Health's mission??
National Physicians Alliance and other groups are hosting a benefit for Haiti tonight, with all proceeds being donated to Partners in Health. We prefer you to donate online directly to Partners in Health:http://www.standwithhaiti/haitiAnd then bring your receipt as your ticket to entry for the benefit. We will also be accepting checks in person.

how come there are so many pre earthquake orphans in Haiti?
Relief supplies are piling up on the tarmac. US military are forcing aid organizations to off load but not distribute. Tens of thousands of Haitians are leaving Port-au-Prince for their home towns and villages without getting even one bottle of water. The first truckload of water to leave the airport went to, are you ready for this? the US embassy. I did not donate for them. So what is this all about? Will relief supplies come back here to be used by Americans. Will they sell it?Why are their 10,000 US soldiers there and only 300 doctors? Cuba has more doctors there. Is this a relief effort for the Americans or an opportunity for America to exploit the situation for the benefit of Americans and American corporations?
