Governor Paterson unveils his new budget today as the conversation about ethics reform, education funding, and the fate of embattled state Senator Hiram Monserrate continues. NYS Senator Eric Schneiderman (D-Manhattan and Bronx) offers his take.
1. You don't have to cite Texas football for budget bluffs -- in NYC the longstanding tradition is to threaten to lay off police officers.
2. School districts outside of NYC all pay with state funds for transportation for students who live beyond a certain difference from their schools (including parochial and private schools), either by providing bus service or commutation passes on public transportation. Why don't NYC students get the same support from the state?
