Is it the "Noughty-Aughts"? "The Era of Misplaced Anxiety"? The first decade of the millennium is ending, and New York Times reporter David Segal takes a shot at naming it.
It should be called the Naked Aughts in that the high and mighty were stripped of their pretenses and exposed for what they are. And the exposed and vulnerable were empowered by the internet.
From Y2k up to the Fruit of the Loom Bomber, this has been the Decade of Fear. And we really at though I fear it may sound cliche, we mostly only have Fear itself to Fear. The chance of any terrible event is MINISCULE, yet we treat the world as if it's out to kill and maim us. It's enough already. We've given up almost all empathy for the rest of the world let alone our own humanity, and we've as a country caused great suffering to many many more people than have suffered here. The Icon of Fear is being held up high to fire up a whole new decade, let's ignore it. Let's toss down the Fear and become a good strong people who can afford to not be afraid through internal strength.
It should be called "The Decade Of Deception". From Enron to "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" to Tiger Woods to my own personal loss and betrayal it's been a decade of lies, deceit and false promises. The misconceptions and use of bad information as a means to an end goes even further back to the so called "Y2K" problem that never materialized to the extent that the well paid techs and experts predicted it would.
The ought(a)s. As in we ought(a) have insisted on a re-count. We ought(a) have slowed things down before invading iraq. We ought(a) have questioned why it was so easy to get mortgages. We ought(a) have asked "Yes we can. . .WHAT?" And on and on and on. . .

The new decade will be taxing in many respects. I feel we should call them The Taxing 10s.
The "Decade of Mass Distraction"
It should be called the Naked Aughts in that the high and mighty were stripped of their pretenses and exposed for what they are. And the exposed and vulnerable were empowered by the internet.

I am thinking that this decade should be called 'The Tenners'
