Dan Savage, author of the syndicated sex-advice column "Savage Love," discusses his "It Gets Better" campaign, which gathers videos of encouragement for LGBT youths.
Yes, it does get better, and I applaud Dan for creating a movement that will at best save lives, at the least give hope. I am a 44-year-old gay man returning to school, and Dan is speaking at my university, FIU, this week. I look forward to seeing him speak. He is an inspiration to young gays and he demonstrates what we can do as individuals to support our cause.
I'm so impressed by Dan, and this project. The right thing, at the right time.
Thanks for saving lives, Dan. And I don't just mean the kids that kill themselves. Nearly every gay kid fights a terrible battle with self-loathing for not fitting in, and fearing his life will be miserable. We all kill a part of ourselves. Thanks for keeping it alive.
Oh it gets better alright Dan--you forgot to tell these youth that it ONLY gets better for white privileged gay men like yourself. Not so for the rest of us.
- a good and compassionate man in his writings for promoting an honest look at how harmful many of our society's taboos are for us all.
- a very brave man for promoting this current discussion through these videos.
Maybe a very different role model than the "norm", but a great one nonetheless.
Propaganda of the worst kind from a sexual deviate; not because he's gay but based on his writings. Not a good role model for a child, not at all.
