In order to get past the Us vs Thems of our current Democrats and Republicans we should allow a voting system where people pick a first choice and a second choice candidate , which would make third parties or independents a viable choice. Now any third parties just become spoilers. Also our Two party system leads to issues being talked about in Black and White hard lines and does not allow for the nuance and shades of Gray that ( should ) make this country as Free as our Founders wanted.
