I've noticed the beefing up of security at churches, specifically during the passing of the collection plate. This is reminiscent of the extra security that was in place during the height of the crack epidemic during the late 80's and early 90's when urban churches were robbed by crack addicts on Sundays.

Following up on the Uncommon Economic Indicators comments regarding yoga... Yes, yoga is recession-proof. Or at least it can be spun that way. Yoga as an antidote to recession blues is merely the latest incarnation of a pehonomenon/discipline/movement/fad that continues to evolve. It's all detailed in a book I wrote, ".Yoga, Inc.: A Journey Through the Big Business of Yoga".

A Morningside Heights shoutout to young European tourists staying at the hostel and small hotels in the West 100s. Starbuck's and diners are full and wonderfully multilingual.

Please don't use my name. Thank you. Stay at home mom in Short Hills. Noticed late last fall a quieter neighborhood due to the stark reduction in corporate jets flying over our area on the way to Newark Airport. Since early summer the frequency of fly overs are definitely increasing.

My favorite comic book store used to give $20 store credit on every $100 spent there. Since June, they've discontinued store credit and are instead have put the entire stock on sale for 30% off, and keep extending the sale.

Yo, Brian... stop talking about The Onion video being at http://www.wnyc.org/video/.

It ain't there. Your "video picks" may be someplace on this site, but I've never found 'em/ That page is just clips of your guests and LL's.

[[Moderator Writes:
It may be a little hidden, but it's there. Look down the list and you should see a link to "Brian Lehrer's Web Video Picks" If you still can't find it, here's the direct link:

Posters have sprung up in my neighborhood that update Milton Glazer's "I (heart) NY." The new one is "I can't afford to (heart) NY."

My boyfriend, who was laid off from his publishing job several months ago, is making more money as a freelancer than he was making at his salaried position.

People are spending again, which is good. But I don't think things will ever go back to the way they were.
