hjs,

I think you are ashamed of President Obama, at least, the you sometimes discuss issues suggests that you are.

fyad,

I don't understand. Feel free to explain your passive aggressive theory. I just state facts. I state what Obama said he would do, what he has lied about, the promises he has broken, etc. Jimmy Carter plays the race card, you play the passive aggressive card, I play the state the facts card.

Let's watch Obama lie to Planned Parenthood.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf0XIRZSTt8

First Obama says "The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

In April, 2009, Obama said that passage of the Freedom of Choice Act was "not [his] highest legislative priority.

Obama lies and lies and lies...

hjs,

At least you stopped calling names sweetcakes.

The Republicans are united against this mess of a health care bill. It is so odd that Democrats are not united behind it. Republicans think it is a mess and many dems do as well. Doensn't say much about President Obama's leadership or bill.

Maybe Jimmy Carter will it racist.

hjs,

You are the only one talking about Palin and you are the only one calling names like "dim." I guess if you resort to name calling, you much not have much else. But no worries, WNYC will probably allow your name calling, you are liberal after all.

Gay rigts is a human rights issue. Saying otherwise is just a way for you to tolerate Obama's religious left approach to treating gays and lesbians like second class citizens.

Keep blaming Bush and Palin, that probably helps you swallow the big bag of Obama lies you are being fed.

Didn't Obama promise we would get out of Iraq? Looks like we are still there, in force.

no one lied to me!
i do know you're not as dim as some might think u are, but to repeat gay marriage is a states issue. i don't care what he thinks about it. state governments will change that law when the progressives do the hard work of getting true progressives elected. if it's a human rights issue then it's the supreme court's role to change the state laws but not that this right wing court cares about human rights, so don't hold your breath for that
a lot of people don't want paterson to run, if that makes me a racist then go for it call me a racist.
if you think the future of the GOP lies with palin and bachmann or huckberry, BRING IT ON! the jokes on u.

Seth,

So, Obama lies and breaks promises because of Sarah Palin?

So interesting.

Seth, are you part of the religious left? Do you advocate treating gays and lesbians as second class citizens because Obama's god says so? I hope not.

Take a deep breath and relax. Obama is doing the best he can do given the fact that the Repub Party has driven itself off a cliff by embracing irrational extremists like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.

Yes yes, Obama is failing, quick, blame Bush! Obama lies, blame Bush! Obama sells out women, gays, lesbians and the American people, blame Bush!

Hey, Obama just asked an African American governor not to run for re-election. According to Jimmy Carter, this is probably a racist act. Wow, President Obama opposes a Democrat who is an African American incumbent. I understand why you want to talk about Bush!

Being in the opposition is fun. I get to watch President Obama lie and his supporters fumble to support him. Better then going to the movies.

Are you part of the religious left? Do you advocate treating gays and lesbians as second class citizens because Obama's god says so? I hope not.

i just don't understand the double standard. also we should talk about bush. he caused a lot of our problems that O has to now fix. and while he's trying to fix them we have oh so many distractions.
no one "promised the world" to me that was all media hype. as for "his promise to strengthen abortion rights as his very first act as President" i'll have to take your word for that one as you haven't listed a source for your info and it isn't a issue i would vote on (and I know u would never lie to me.)
lastly I would never mistake a promise to work for something during a 4 year term for a lie because it hasn't been done in the first 9 months. Obama has been doing a great job so far. he has fixed bush's economy. the fear many had, that mccain would have been a 2nd herbert hoover did not come to pass.
as I've said elections matter, we voted him in. you'll have your say again in 2010. the people will get what they deserve.

I understand why you want to talk about Bush, talking about Obama and his lies must be very difficult for you. President Obama promised the world and is delivering on nothing. Just ask Planned Parenthood. President Obama can’t even keep his promise to strengthen abortion rights as his very first act as President.

so when bush and the gop couldn't outlaw abortion during our nation's darkest time (2000-2006 ) when they controlled everything they were lying to their supporters. interesting.
it doesn't matter what I say. put your energy into the elections in 2010. if the people want a return to gop rule and all that comes with that, let them get what they deserve.

some people sure do have short memories don't they.

hjs,

Gay rights is a human rights issue. And, it is a health care issue as well. For example, how many gays and lesbians would have health insurance if gay couples could marry? Many for sure.

The president is a Democrat, the house and senate are controlled by Democrats, and Democrats can't get it done. What a shame and what a waste of a mandate.

Pearlstein is indeed grossly misinformed -- or just plain duplicitous -- though depressingly typical of the American media.

Single payer has had broad majority support for 50 years and more. It's just that insurance companies and Ron Brownstein don't like it.

So that it means it's impossible to achieve. And so much for democracy. No wonder American hate government.

I think Susie's comment was made on the air. Don't know about you but I found Ron Brownstein hugely irritating. His view is so 'inside the Beltway,' I don't think he knows - or cares? - how average citizens really think and feel. People who vote Republican and say they are concerned about a drift towards an anti-American socialism have been grossly misinformed and misled by calculating Republican politicians who are still horrified by Obama's huge mandate from Nov 2008 and are desperate to bring him down and squelch the voices of the millions of Americans who voted for him.

Everyone, NOW, is forced to pay for health insurance through soaring costs whether they have insurance or not. If you ever have to use a doctor or medical services, you are paying for the extremely high cost of all the people that don't have insurance and end up in the emergency room, which happens regularly around the U.S.

So, if you go to the doctor, the prices include the de facto emergency room, sick person "insurance" instead of proper preventive insurance.

As Brownstein states, coverage isn't the issue, affordability is.

I favor a national insurance program for one reason:

so "cube jockeys" can shake off the corporate shackles that is health insurance and do something bolder and more useful with their lives.

I agree with Suzie, a single payer system is necessary, but they won't even look at it. Except, not every civilised country has it. For example, Germany does not. They have universal care, but with private health insurance and a public option. Why isn't anyone using that as an example. While I prefer single payer, but this might be a compromise. Why hasn't anyone looked to this?

The public option is available---see www.the-public-option.com; www.primary-care-medicine.net.
This would create a foundation from which the bst system in the world could emerge.

What's not put in the same paragraph as a mandate for health insurance is the money people will *save* in taxes from paying for ER visits, Medicaid, etc.

By the way, according to Stephanopoulos's definition of "taxes" so is parking fines, increased transit fares, water fees, CUNY/SUNY tuition fee increases, among others--all of which are on the middle- and working-class people. (But the proposal for a 0.01% tax increase on income for the rich.) Those descriptions are never given when, say, candidate (mayoral?) debates happen.

I don't mind paying more tax to support a government health care program, e.g., Medicare and Medicaid, but not to pay the profit-making insurance companies and the Baucus plan would pay the insurance companies.

Wrong.

And that too, auto insurance that is, IS a tax as well. I don't drive but as far as I see it a government telling people they have to pay for something is a tax. Now I'm not condemning taxes, I agree with lots of taxes but not on health care. That part of the bill had better get dumped.

Why is President Obama being allowed to break so many promises on health care reform with so little challenge? President Obama promised to make birth control and women’s issues part of the health care debate – he has not. President Obama promised to strengthen abortion laws as his first presidential act (surely abortion is a health care issue) – President did not (some would say that he lied). What about gay rights and gay marriage? What about all of the same sex couples who don’t have the same health care coverage as married couples because of bigoted marriage laws that President Obama supports?

Some on the left have suggested that President Obama’s health care vision will make not having health care illegal. I can choose to drive a car and if I do so, I must buy insurance. I can’t choose to be born. It strikes me as absurd that President Obama really wants to make it illegal not to have health insurance.
