Interesting that this is a race between Thompson and Bloomberg, yet the ONLY thing some people wan t to talk about is ACORN. lol
The Bloomberg divide and conquer strategy is emerging. Eh?
Bloomberg is on a TOTAL power/rgo trip. NYC is a toy for him....and he even gets to advance the interests of the rich while he's at it.
The argument that Bloomberg takes no "special interest" money is a complete joke....Bloomberg IS A SPECIAL INTEREST all by himself. He's spending HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of his OWN dollars to buy off the who city!
Bloomberg is an NYC version of Silvio Berlusconi. How SICK is THAT!?
I hope Mr. Thompson stands up to conservatives and leaders who lead by religion like President Obama.
You’re welcomed hjs. Maybe Calls’em is stationed on base and is new to Hampton, but when he/she said Hampton didn’t have a mayor, I nearly fell off my chair. Almost made me think James Eason had played the biggest scam in the world making us call him mayor for nearly the entire 18 years I lived there full-time. As for people “associated” with Langley AFB working in northern VA… um yeah, the federal government? I think they run the armed forces… Fun fact: Hampton is the oldest continually occupied English-speaking settlement in the United States. It turns 400 years old in 2010.
I was listening to The Diane Rhem (sp?) Show last week. The guest said the Senate (Baucus) version of the bill would require that employees would have to buy health insurance and, if they are unable to do so, the employer would be required to pay into a fund. This would mean the the more well-off job applicants have a leg up on any available job. Ask your next health guest to comment on this.
Voter 27 & 22] jtt thanks. i always knew this was an astroturfer working hard. also if we connect the dots we see other posts from the same person (same crazy pattern) with different 'names.' i think we should be ok with this but if 'he' thinks he's fooling us, shame on him.
You make many comments that, in my humble opinion, are illogical. Here is the big one. You seem to have decided all on your own that the main issue here is that ACORN acted legally or illegally. That is neither here not there.
ACORN is a symptom of a sickness. The sickness is the lies, broken promises and immoral decisions of may Democratic officials that the left refuses to challenge in any meaningful or open way.
Obama lies and lies and lies, breaks promises and has associated with some real immoral people. Rev. Wright, ACORN, former terrorists…
And the left accepts this. I don’t. Which is why I asked if Mr. Thompson will accept all this, or not.
Peter, You can claim anyone is making your points for you since they’re all castles made of sand. My point is that—no matter how egregious ACORN’s actions—as of this moment from what is known nothing (and this is the key word) illegal was done. Amoral and unethical, of course, but illegal and prosecutable, no. Why not? Because no paperwork was filed attempting to claim prostitution as contracting or sex slaves as dependents. What has happened, in reality, is that a political hot potato has landed in the laps of the Democrats and they are quick to drop it by cutting all funding. I know how much you love bashing the political left and it is your full right as an American to do so, but at least base the criticisms in reality and not the conspiracy windmills of your mind. And just so you know, I am not responding to your post because of your ending plea, you rarely answer any questions posed to you without anything other than personal attacks or nonsensical rants, I’m replying to stop the hyperbolic looniness that is the BL comment pages.
This is rich. Calls’em,I’m a Hamptonian born and breed (though now a Brooklynite) and yes Langley AFB is in Hampton, Virginia (I’ve been on it many times as a child), but “Langley, VA”—an unincorporated community in McLean, Virginia which is in Fairfax County and the home of the CIA and FHA—as spelled out in your name generally refers to the town up north and not the air force base. Jim Oliver is the interim City Manager; however, Hampton also has a mayor (Molly Joseph Ward) and vice mayor (Joseph H. Spencer II). The citizens of Hampton vote for their mayor, the city manager is appointed/selected by the city.Langley AFB (an air force base) is not directly associated with Langley, Virginia (home to the CIA). That’s like linking Washington, District of Columbia, with Washington state.BTW, a division of NASA also sits on Langley Air Force Base (which it has in some form since the near beginning of the 20th Century) and Hampton, VA was pivotal in the Mercury space program. Go Crabbers!
Thanks for clarifying. ACORN was caught on tape training people how to break the law and you are concerned about paperwork. You have proven my point. Many on the left are unable and uninterested in investigating their own corruption. This is why Obama gets away with lying and the only card left to play is race.
Voter, please respond, you are making my points for me.
 jtt -
"Langley" is located in Hampton, VA. That's about half way between Williamsburg, VA and Virginia Beach (take US 64 South). It doesn't have a Mayor it has a City Manager, who at the moment is acting or interim City Manager named Jim Oliver, a nice guy who has successfully managed several other VA towns. He recently took office after Jesse Wallace retired. There is a large AFB down here named after Samuel Pierpont Langley one of aviation's early pioneers. This may be confusing, but most of the people associated with "Langley" actually work in northern Virginia in McLean. Go figure. It’s currently cloudy and 72 F with a chance of rain. How is it up there? Probably raining political scandals. Lol.
Peter,Going only on what I’ve heard on WNYC and caught in TV media, ACORN is looking for an independent auditor to investigate AND Congress and a few states have taken the kneejerk response (which may even be for the best) of skipping investigations and immediately divesting from ACORN. Personally, I don’t care either way in that what was caught on tape were ridiculously and stereotypically dressed people getting ridiculous advice from people who probably shouldn’t have a job and leaving the office with no (absolutely zero) paperwork where no actual crime was committed. Regardless of what happens, there isn’t the vast left-wing conspiratorial cover-up you’re making this out to be.
It is one thing to discuss ACORN, it is something else to investigate it. ACORN is being cast aside by many as being the equivalent to requesting President Obama’s birth records. ACORN is a symptom of a media and of Democrats who won’t challenge the White House and their bad choices and broken promises. Obama has broken so many promises it is remarkable, and the left, including most of the media, lets him get away with it. Will Mr. Thompson, if elected mayor to perhaps the most liberal city in the world, pursue his gay rights and women’s rights agenda against the wishes of this religious left White House?
who's the mayor of langley,va?
Bill is not doing well. Tony Weiner or Tony Avella would have made better candidates. Unfortunately, they are all fighting the 800 pound gorilla in the diminutive Bloomie. Besides, Weiner is being groomed to replace Biden in the 2012 election since Obama is losing elderly Jewish voters on the health care canard and Jewish voters from all age groups because of his anti-Israel inclinations and his class and race baiting politics. Plus when Weiner, the life long confirmed bachelor marries Hillary's Islamic Huma Abedin top aide (also a life long confirmed “bachelor-ette”), Obama will really nail the Islamic vote in America, counter acting Obama's attack on small business which hurts the Islamic community in America.
Former Governor Gray Davis in California was recalled to be replaced by the Governator Schwarzenegger with similar assertions that Arnold could solve all of the state's ills - and we can all see how that worked out. I want to hear specifics from Bill Thompson - not just fight the billionaire mayor pipe dreams.
It was scary listening to Thompsons desperate rant against Bloomberg and what his plan is in an apeal to the unenployed, small business and the outer boros, about property taxes.
Anyone in there right mind knows that small business supports big business and relies on their success. Big business and their employes pay big taxes, that support the poor, devellopment and the fortune we must send to Albany. I shuldn't take a rocket scientest to know this.
If these generalities are all he has to offer we better be scared if he becomes mayor.
Word of advice for Mr. Thompson, I happen to think Mayor Bloomberg has done a good job as mayor, but I’ve been poised to vote for you. Class bating and whining won’t get my vote and you’re on the cusp of losing it. Stick to real issues and what you will do to better the City or you’ll be without a job come November.
Bloomberg does not support keeping Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village affordable. He is well known to be great friends with the Speyers who purchased it and proceeded to trash the property and abuse the tenants. Bloomberg, laughably, mouths that he supports middle class housing but the net loss of stabilized units under his reign is large and ugly.
It's a complicated world - even more so in NYC. Bloomie should be defeated just because he violated the public trust to gain a third term. On the other hand Bill, while a nice guy is a bit of a political hack and there is a great chance that dangerous organizations like SEIU and ACORN will be running the City. Oh, well, it's all going to s--t under Barry Obama anyway, to wit: The US Treasury just released a report under federal court order subject to a FOIA request stating that the new Democrats "Cap & Trade" regs (imposed to save the environment) affecting energy production and use will cost the average person about $1700 per year - equivalent of an average 15% tax increase. Friends, this is from the “Official Report.” The administration promised it was going to be $100 per year - a big "F-ing" difference. Many think-tanks state that this number could be much higher. This will absolutely wreck families and the economy at large. How is the average person going to pay for this? Unfortunately, many of the socialist Tsars in this administration specifically favor "de-development" of this country. They want to transfer our collective wealth to countries overseas, while many of those folks are doing little to “save the environment.” By use of quasi-legal “Tsars,” this Executive Branch is by-passing it’s Constitutional Cabinet, “eating” the Legislative Branch and trying to kill America. Why?
Will Mr. Thompson help the alternative high school students who were disenfranchised by the present administration when the alternative high school superintendency was dissolved.
Is Mr. Thompson so out of touch to not realize we are in the biggest recession since the Great Depression? How would Mr. Thompson create job growth in a recession when the country’s unemployment rate is at a 20+ year high. Where will all of this money he’s proposing we throw around to create jobs in a recession come from while cutting taxes, giving tax rebates, giving tax credits, and cutting water rates (even for deadbeats who aren’t paying)? Who will lose money, what programs will be cut, how will revenue will be generated?
What does Thompson want to do with the (apparently much-reviled?) bike lanes, and how is he going to encourage non-car transportation in the city?
Here's a simple question: Why does Bloomberg want to be mayor? He clearly doesn't believe in democratic ideals. He oozes contempt for average New Yorkers. He oozes contempt for millionaires! The overwhelming impression I get is that Bloomberg is on an endless ego trip.
Mayor Bloomberg has been a very good mayor. But overturning term limits was wrong, and he should pay for usurping our democracy. Go Thompson go. Bloomberg is special but he is not the only one that is special. Thompson has shown himself to be extremely capable. And I believe that he will be a superior mayor, and that he will keep us all safe yet within constitutional bounds.
I never thought that I would say that but I am supporting Thompson for mayor.
Vote for REAL CHANGE! Vote for Monty Burns for Mayor! www.burnsformayor.com
NY City need real changes and mayor Bloomberg proved many times that he cannot bring about the needed reforms. The current mayor is a business man and acts like that, he did a lot of shady and back door business in the name of the city and advocating that the deal benefitted the city. We need transparent deals in all level for the city !
Thanks for reinforcing my point, #4 voter from Brooklyn. Look away, look away, look away...
Please ask Mr. Thompson what he will actually do (means and methods) not just platitudes, class bating, and term limits (some of whom didn’t care and will probably vote against him because he won’t shut up about limits that a person with money, not the concerned citizens, ushered in)
Bravo, Bill Thompson!
If Mike Bloomberg wants to be dictator or king he can go back to Bloomberg LLP or buy his own island. His brand of politics belongs in New York circa 1900 or in some non-democratic regime.
Did he read the Wayne Barrett article in the Village Voice about how Bloomberg News took over channel 30 (former YES channel) around the time that the Yankee stadium negotiations were going on? It looks like an exchange was made for tax/bond breaks.
Also, what's his stance on Stuytown and Peter Cooper? Does he side with the tenants? Bloomberg never made a statement either way.
Peter,The mainstream media, WNYC included, has been covering Acorn its recommendations to a white “pimp” and “prostitute”—it’s the topic du jour so it’ll get beat to death like pimps beat whores—Congress is in the process of defunding them, the state is defunding then, the City doesn’t directly fund them but council member funds may go to them. That will be reviewed. So tone it down and pay attention to what’s actually being done rather than conspiracy theories.
Nice point. ACORN is being dismissed as a right wing witch hunt by many. Folks who back ACORN have shown extremely poor judgement. Will the media have the courage to investigate, or will they fear being called racists? We shall see.
As Mr. Thompson is chummy with Bertha Lewis of ACORN, a complete investigation of his dealings with that group is in order. Oh, wait. He's a Democrat, which means he has immunity from any real, substantive scrutiny from the mass media. My bad. Forget I brought it up.
Mr. Thompson’s campaign website states that Mr. Thompson is “a long-time advocate of legalizing same-sex marriage.”
President Obama opposes gay marriage and has not revoked “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” like he promised. Will Mr. Thompson speak out against President Obama’s bigotry towards gays and lesbians? Will Mr. Thompson remind folks that there is a separation between church and state and that President Obama’s religious left agenda is un-American?
Mr. Thompson’s website states that “Bill Thompson is a staunch advocate for women in New York City. He's a strong supporter of women's health and reproductive rights, pay equity, and diversity in the work place.”
Will Mr. Thompson remind President Obama that he promised Planned Parenthood that the first law he signs into place will be a law strengthening abortion rights? President Obama broke that promise.
President Obama promised to make insurance companies pay for female contraceptives. Will Mr. Thompson remind President Obama that he has completely ignored this promise?
President Obama has completely sold out women and gays and lesbians. Will Mr. Thompson promise not to do the same?
