Mr. Griswold asserted, but didn't explain, that there's still lots of manufacturing in the US, but that it is now higher on the value chain", and that lower value products are what's being done abroad. I'd like to suggest you invite him back to explain that more. Seems to me that even if his statement is true that many of our workers are better off with jobs in low-skill manufacturing than no jobs at all.

Mr. Griswold sounds like a shill for the tire importing industry. And free traders. Trade rules are set-up because everyone can benefit from free trade (Ricardo). It can raise everyone’s standard of living. But governments must make sure the trade is also fair trade. Should we simply let imports run wild until we have no jobs, we can never out work 1.2 billion poor Chinese. Perhaps we should import conservative think tank commentators? I bet a tariff would be fine for him, because they subsidize education.
All we would like to see is more balanced approach with fairer competition where the existing rules are enforced. This is simply an enforcement action. I don't believe the bush administration enforce any trade rules. So, I see it as the pendulum swinging back, not the usual ideological argument about free trade.
Finally, I think everyone should read up a little bit on Ricardo, Comparative Advantage and the HO model.

What class is this guy, Daniel? Obviously upper class, he needs to take a road trip across America and talk to real people instead of Havard grads. It is about time that we protect our dwindling working middle class, that made America strong. This did not happen over night and unfortunately it may be irreversable! And we haven't done the citizens of Communist China any favors by doing business with a government who doesn't recognise human rights and has erased the fact in its history that it mowed down students peacefully demostating! OH PLEASE!

Which comes first, the chicken or the tire?

Or...

Which comes first, the job or the money to buy consumer goods?

I'm still reeling at the implication that the only thing we are exporting to China --besides our wealth-- is...chicken feet!
