The largest gathering on Earth, the Hajj, is happening this week. The annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca draws some 3 million people to Saudi Arabia from all over the world. Blogger Aman Ali, talks about the meaning and experience of the Hajj, which his parents are making this year.
Are you making the Hajj this year? Have you gone in the past? Tell us about your experience. Comment below!

I'm troubled that the guest may be shifting the significance of the kaaba as a "building made by abraham", maybe to make it more legible to non-muslims. isn't the significance of that building the meteorite cornerstone, which one must touch on pilgramage if one can. teh stone preceeded teh building, and indeed preceded islam, historians say, as a site of reverence.
Minor correction: the Kumbha Mela is the largest pilgrimage on the planet. Roughly 70 million people in 2007.

and this year there is h1n1 worries
I second that, more power to the patient, communal muslims.
I've never been to hajj and used to feel like it was something i should try to do once in my life but to me, it just sounds like a nightmare. the heat, the crowds, etc. but everyone i know who has gone has come back with incredible stories (and pictures). more power to the patient, communal muslims! sadly, i am not one of them.
