Details of the senate health care bill are coming to light. Washington Post Congressional Reporter Shailagh Murray parses what's in the legislation and what's not.
This was one of the clearest explanations of the health care reform issue. Bravo to Lehrer and Murray.

As has been pointed out above, this woman is presenting market approaches as a likely and desirable mean of providing health care.
This is not reporting. She is actively advocating for this approach.

The last thing we need is anything that resembles the Federal Reserve Board. the FED board is a JOKE and is run by only the New York FED. It is an illusion that this will be an independenty body. Think of Tim Geithner, a banker looking after the banks interest not the public. This Healthcare Board will be ran by healthcare insiders and only look out for the insurance and pharmaceutical corporation and not the public good. All thses people (board memebers) will either come from or leave to work for these healthcare corporations.

Who is this women? Why is she masking market fundamentalist ideology as reporting?
Economists have shown that health care is not a commodity that can be viewed in the way refrigerators are. I suppose this reflects the debate in the Senate. Most Americans (%57 I think... which is something considering the media coverage) want a real public option, but the corporate power structure has hijacked our legislative process so completely. And people will continue to suffer and die due a lack of sufficient care. This is so sad. So damn sad.

Why not ask Ms. Murray if she can cite a single example, in 3000 years of recorded of history, where the so-called "free market" provided quality universal coverage, on the order of what's available in Japan, France, Canada or Germany today?
Or do we have to pretend that the tooth-fairy exists, whenever we discuss health-care?

Why are individuals, entrepreneurs and the self employed asked to pay for health care with after tax dollars, while employees of larger companies are allowed to pay with pre-tax dollars? This fundamental unfairness is never addressed in the public discourse.

Money better spent would be to create primary care centers throughout the country. That would decongest ERs, ASSURE everybody primary care (www.the-public-option.com)and control patient care which is the job of primary care. PC doctors ingtegrate patient care and prevent wanderring specialist to specialist.
The congress is trying to fix a process that they fail to understand. It is a procesws that starts with primary care.

Sure, let's tax union members for winning good health care. Great idea!
