God save us from criminal groups like ACORN that ruin it for the honest anti-poverty groups. Corruption, vote-rigging and wasting of tax-payers money by ACORN can't be justified in any way by the good that ACORN might have done. As my granny says: some nuts are better chopped up.

That's it, that's the whole segment? What happened to the opposing view or even mentioning of all the facts. What a joke. I hope you read this Brian, because you really dropped the ball here. If I didn't know any better I'd say you are biased and support ACORN and have done all of us a disservice.

African Americans will never get away from poverty and self distruction until they get away from leaders that are really criminals, be they the preachers, the con men like al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and poor political leaders like the former mayor of Newwark, Sharp James or Marion Barry from DC. That is the problem. Acorn has now joined that sad list. They continue to defend poor behavior.

Maybe Vince Warren can stay on the line after this segment to ask NPR ombudsman Alicia Shepard about her defense of US torture.

When will governments withdraw funding from Catholic charities as a result of the Church's perpetual pedophilia scandals?

Rep. Alan Grayson skewered some braindead Republican in Congressional hearings on the constitutionality of Bills of Attainder (which the anti-ACORN bill is). The language of the ACORN bill is so badly written (or well, depending on how you look at it) that it would probably sweep up Halliburton, Erik Prince's murder-for-hire operation (Blackwater or whatever it's current name is), Bechtel and a host of other Republican pets.

See Glenn Greenwald on this or google for Grayson video:

Hi have to disagree with the first comment. it is evident that ACORN has long been riddled with mis-management, corruption, and simply just not paying their employees. Even the Catholic Church has cut them off. My Aunt has run a low-income housing program in Connecticut and ACORN has hindered her attempts because of self interest and financial gain. I live 5 blocks from the Atlantic Yards that seeks to build an arena at least 14 skyscrapers full of luxury apartments and retail, while pushing people out using eminent domain. It would create the largest residential density neighborhood in the whole country with less than 1000 units for "moderate income" not lower. It would transform a working class community into further rich development that people have accused Bloomberg of doing (and yes he pushed it) and price me out. I have been fighting it for years. But ACORN supports it. Why? Because Bruce Ratner owner of the Nets and the developer gave then $1.5 million and a mouthpiece. He can now say "ACORN" supports it so its ok" and ACORN can say "look we can cooperate with big business" and up their profile.

ACORN was indeed railroaded by politicians who were seeking favor with their constituents. If an honest inquiry had been undertaken, instead of a witch hunt, the value of ACORN's work would have been revealed. What is even more disagreeable is the number of supposedly open-minded Democrats that went along with this charade. All should be ashamed.
