I would like to see Dobbs contribute to humanity by getting a job at a meat-packing plant.

Dobbs should try a start-up: Demagogues-R-us! He'd rent himself out to deliver crowds to teabag rallies and witch hunts.

This would be more accurate, truth in labelling, as opposed to the fiction that this self-serving bloviator is a "newsman".

I'll forego the career advice since my secret (and likely futile) hope is that Dobbs won't have a post-CNN career.

It's worth taking stock, however, of what Dobbs' popularity and his public transformation from an economics correspondent into a political commentator mean. Although some left-leaning people were taken by surprise when Dobbs' moved from becoming a critic of NAFTA to becoming an outspoken opponent of undocumented migrant workers, the move was predictable. Along with Dobbs' ongoing flirtation with conspiracy theorists like the birthers, these positions form a rather coherent ideological outlook, albeit an odious one. Taken together they reveal a strong nativist streak running through Dobbs' thought. In retrospect, Dobbs' opposition to NAFTA had to do with what he regarded as its adverse impact on U.S. "natives." Had the deleterious effects of NAFTA only been felt in Mexico and Canada, Dobbs would have been for it.

Dobbs' popularity is another thing entirely. Although one might argue, as Lehrer's guest did, that Dobbs appeals to traditionalists, this is not quite right. One can be, as my father-in-law was, a traditionalist and not be a nativist. Dobbs' "genius" (and it is a perverse genius) is to make the latter appear as the former.

Some of those who like what Dobbs has to say are thus his unfortunate dupes. Others, however, no doubt share his nativism. Both are cause for deep concern.

What Lou Dobbs does next I'll leave to others to humorously express, but I want to add something sobering into the mix here. In checking CNN's website this morning, I saw a story about Dobbs receiving thousands of vicious phone calls during the past few months over his beliefs which culminated just the other night with someone shooting at his house while his wife was outside. The local New Jersey police are currently investigating the incident. Although I do not watch his show or agree with most of his views, I find it a sad commentary that the angry polarization to the left and right in this country has gone this level.

Since Dobbs is so convinced that immigrant labor is taking jobs that Americans will do, I invite him - an American - to begin his post-CNN career by working along side low wage workers doing the back-breaking, dirty and thankless tasks they do.

That said, I do think Dobbs sticks up for the middle-income worker, who often seems forgotten. His "War on the Middle Class" series last year dealt with many issues beyond immigration. He also addresses these on his show. Immigration is a real issue, but I believe it can be one we can deal with without fanning the flames of ethnic hatred. And in this regard he is completely irresponsible and bigoted. No one from the calmer school of reporting seems to address this as regularly.

I also can't stand that he plays fast and loose with facts and invites people on his show just to interrupt them. I am actually frightened to see where he's going to end up and how he'll be when he's completely unbound.

Thank God he is leaving maybe now I can watch CNN and want to get out of bed in the morning. He is so negative it is depressing. Maybe he should go to a yoga retreat!

Lou Dobbs does seem to have struck a nerve with the people on the left hee who can be civil to Newt Gingrich. A bit of a lightening rod.

Mr Dobbs is the exemple of an extraodinary american, I have never applauded Mr Dobbs views,but he is a concerned american who feels just like anyone of us the right to express his views and displeasure, good or bad he takes his concerns very personal or bit too personal at times. While I'm hardly in Lou Dobbs' corner, he speaks for many in some of the more contentious and important conversations our society is having. If he can be silenced and demonized as some in the more 'enlightened' WNYC audience would do, so can you the voices that we sympathize with. I think I understand the frustration of my fellow listeners. The right routinely demonizes politicians they disagree with as a way to silence them. Although the temptation to return fire can be irresistable, hold your fire and rise above the opposition that is dedicated to destroying public discourse. Ideas should fail because they are lame, not because they never see the light of day. That's not what this show is about.

I find it disturbing how a liberal outlet such as this is so incredibly arrogant, closed minded and self righteous as to label someone who has only stated time and again that the laws on the books should be enforced. Nothing more, nothing less. It is incredibly disheartening and a turn off to the liberal movement that people on the left are exactly as bad as people on the far right.

Lou should set up a not-for-profit modeled on Habitat for Humanity to complete the Great Fence separating Mexico from the US. Then he can put on some chain mail, pick up a broad sword and shield (with the Fox logo incorporated into his Coat of Arms), and man the Great Fence's reamparts to protect us from the dragon he believes embodies the threat of illegal immigration.

I've been waiting several years for Lou Dobbs to make a move to something far more important. I would be thrilled to see Lou Dobbs run for President on the Independent ticket. I'm am so tired of going from extreme lefties to extreme righties - most Americans do not believe in either extreme. Please, Mr. Dobbs, save us from the yo-yoing back and forth from one insane mindset to another. The reality is every news agency is opinionated and partisan. I'll take Dobbs over the Wolf any day. Blitzer should wear a dress, he's pathetic as is CNN.

Men can select from either deodorant (ok for you) OR anti-perspirant (not ok for you), while woman can choose only from different brands of anti-perspirant.

Who decided that women can't sweat? The real problem is purchasing women's deodorant that doesn't also contain anti-perspirant. Where? (A hex on those offering Tom's of Maine.)

Or he should just putter around his house, every day slightly making more ornate his shrine to Father Coughlin and H.G. Wells (which latter thought Italians, Slavs, Jews, and Chinese utterly unassimilable and useless to America).
