New York State and Nassau County Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs discusses the recent election and what it means for the Democratic party in the region.
Give me a break...this guy is blaming the school districts for the property tax (which on its face is true) but then does not speak at all about how they did nothing over the past 8 years to control it - no control over salaries (which in Nassau are almost all 6 figures, pensions, etc). He also does not speak about the constant reassessments they are all to happy to impose on us. As a Democrat, I am livid over being priced out of my home by ever increasing property taxes and I'm extremely pleased as are others I know that the party was ran out of town - but hearing this guy speak the apparently still haven't gotten the message. While I have my doubts, hopefully the "other" party got the message and will do something.

The Dems will always have a stronghold in the area. It's the rest of the country that they need to worry about.
Gallup took a recent poll in which they asked respondents if there was an election right now, how would they vote without knowing the names of the candidates(otherwise known as a generic ballot poll). The results were that the GOP had a 4% lead. A similar poll conducted in July of this year had the Dems up by 6%. Percentage of error was around 5%, so some people have already dismissed this.
The real bad news is that the respondents that identied themselves as independent had the GOP ahead by 22%, up by 1% last July.

Suozzi also took credit for trimming Government. He just didn't replace the people who retired this year. MEanwhile, they keep giving civil service exams at $36 a piece but then they don't call the lists.

It is true, all you have to say to American voters is that a candidate will raise your taxes and you will certainly get them into a tizzy.

Democrats aren't just demoralized, we're PISSED OFF. The people we've elected to represent us are ignoring their constituency. Why would we want to support that?

Why aren't the democrats in the state legislature being more cooperative in coming up with a solution to the NY budget crisis? Is the plan to let David Paterson shoulder all the blame in the next election?

Give Mr. Suozzi some credit, he is the only official from a suburb who is addressing sprawl, advocating for downtown living. etc... Does Mr. Suozzi have any interest in implementing street cars and light rails to help connect long island and get people out of their cars?
