And yes, I swear by Maclaren strollers, I had two and they both lasted many years, one about 12, the other about 6. They are very well built and we put them through the wringer.

Am sure the company will make good on this. It makes them look better, not worse.

Also, while it is not life threatening, any trip to the emergency room is traumatic with a child bleeding.

Of Course.

But that doesn't let them off the hook to fix something they know is near children and is harmful.

Responsible companies watch how their customers use their products.

Eg: This is one scenario about how I and most of the mothers in my neighborhood use a stroller and how this could happen to a "responsible" parent, even without distractions of other children, strangers around, dogs etc. City life.

Child rides in stroller.

Child wants out to walk.

Child is trained by responsible parent to hold a hand, or if that is not possible, eg. other child to deal with, child is taught that it is safe to hold the metal part of the stroller.

Parent stops to fold up stroller.

Parent takes hand away from stroller.

Hinge sticks. Parent focuses on hinge.

Child is waiting longer than expected, and puts hand on other side (other hinge) to comfort him/herself - it keeps him from wandering.

First hinge suddenly snaps shut, snapping the one where the child's hand is on the other side.

Child is hurt.

You should note that finger tips grow back, especially in young children.

I hope that some of those greedy doctors Obama always talk about didn't amputate the kids’ hands or arms rather that bandaging up the finger tips. Lol.

No product can be totaly accident proof.

Isn't this a hazard in anything that folds? tables, chairs, umbrellas?

Why not recall all of these items as well?

There was no issue with this before because parents were able to either take the time to teach their children to stay away.

I'm sure the strollers of the past were MUCH more dangerous, is this a litgious society issue? over regulation or bad parenting?

I use a Quest Sport with my three and a half month old. I am extremely happy with it. This seems to be more of an issue with how parents use the stroller than with the stroller itself. Why are parents folding and unfolding these strollers with their kids hands in position to get hurt? And twelve over the past ten years does not seem so bad.

what about the Maclaren Starck? i think they only made it for about a year or two.
