always have come down like a bag of hammers on McDonald's in front of the kids. w extreme prejudice. now on trips the kids won't even eat mcds when we (adult husb and wife) do.
nor will they eat school lunches that involve processed meat or cheese. ps they are gorgeous and popular.
basically it's snob or slob, we chose sides rather than preaching moderation -- and so far so good.

I have 4 year old twins (boy and a girl). My husband and I are from Sri Lanka originally and love spicy foods. (anything curried). My Mother in law used to tease me that the kids got introduced to spicy food with their breast milk. They love the curry and I never reduced on the spices when I cook from the time they started on solids. Much to the amazement of my sister in law and brother. their son who grew up in sri lanka and moved here when he 15 (18 Now) still does not eat spicy food.

I realized my picky son would eat anything as long as I didn't serve it in our home the first time. He does all his experimenting at other people's houses, then I get the recipes.

The rule in my home was: you must try it once, and if you don't like it you don't have to finish it. As a result, I was one of the only kids who loved liver and lima beans.

I tell my daughter that brocolli and asparagus are baby trees and she eats them up. They're actually kind of a treat for her. So far, anyway! Her favorite foods are dumplings and, of course, all things McDonalds.

I gave food for my daughter from what we were eating when she started to eat solids, and if she didn't eat what was served, she didn't eat that evening. She now eats everything and now among her her favorite foods are Tostones and Edamame.
