To put Sonia's mind at ease, the Panorama in the Queens Museum is the original model. It was taken out and updated in teh 90s and then reinstalled. I've heard that the old building were used in another art project by a guy named Richard Plunz.

This sounds like a great idea until you read the fine print that says your purchase is renewable after 5 - 10 years. I would buy my building if it was for life!!!!

SO GLAD to hear the panorama discussed in the media! It is a true treasure of NY and it always amazes me how few New Yorkers know it exists. Every New Yorker should check it out at some point.

To address some concerns, the buildings on the Panorama are not being "sold off." The "sales" are simply symbolic. The "buyer" does not actually receive a piece of the model. The money goes toward the maintenance, lighting, and educational programs for the Panorama.

What happened to the original panorama???? - the one that was replaced about ten years ago? I hope it's in a museum basement, or municipal warehouse somewhere, and not (as I suspect) disintegrating in a dump in Staten Island...

I'd buy Tompkins Square Park. Then, I'd let it turn back into the heroin-infested drug haven it was back in the 80's.

I want to buy the Metro Theater, on Broadway between 99th and 100th street.

it was the Midway Porno Movie theater when I lived around the corner as a teenager, then a repertory house for a minute, where I saw films in black and white and Woody Allen retrospectives, then a crappy commercial multiplex, and now it's just rotting away.

I'd buy the building on Water Street with the clock on the side, so long as the donation went to them building a working clock on the side.

I would buy the new Bank Of America Building off the corner of Bryan Park. I happen to think its pretty (I know many think its an eyesore), but its also "green" building, and I would make the lower portion into an arts school!

I would buy Governors Island and the entire UN area of the Upper East Side. I'd move the UN to Governors Island, and I'd transform the UN area into a car-free parkland with great bike lanes.

i'll buy the Verizon skyscraper downtown, then dismantle it in the hopes there is some voodoo magic happening in that Panorama, and the real one goes away. Man, it's ugly.

It would be great if the Queens Museum could partner with StoryCorps to record the stories of why people are buying what they buy. It would tell a great story about the people of New York.

i looked my my old apartment on Pitt St. A lot of those Michell Llama and lower income housing projects are totally missing.

I'd buy the port authority bus depot and environs. A nice slice of sleezy midtown 1992. Are there little porn-store patrons in the model?

I'd by the High Line or the LIRR rail yards and then develop it myself.

I would buy the land over the Atlantic Yards and build a school, a hospital, an elderly home and a park called the Jackie Robinson Park.
