As a former US Army Air Defense Artillery officer who served in Iraq in 2003, I can say that the verteran NEEDS to take care of his own business first. The returning soldier needs to be proactive and not wait for things to come to them. They can not let paper work and other types of obstacles delay their progression.

ok that is pretty much a lie, Isreal continues, right now, this very day, to take more land, in violation of the Geneva convention and U.N. resolutions but you don't want to talk about that do you, just keep taking land for illegal settlements. You don't want to talk about how the stern gang massacred palestine ciillians in thier homes do you, or what teh Haggana did, and how to date there has not been one single cent paid to those people to compensate them for the loss of their lands, livelihood and lives. You don't want to talk about how Neten-yahoo does not want a two state solution and embraces open discrimation against arabs who hold Isreali citzenship. Isreal is the new South Africa. But yo don't want to talk about that, you want to say that palestines are bad because they did not protest against Saddam, well so what, neither did Americans. You are so intellectually dishonest its not even funny. One has nothing to do with the other. I don't see Isreal protesting against China over Tibet, so by your "logic" therefore Isreal is far worse. what bunk.

What exactly are "non-combat troops"? Is there such a thing?

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Web site offers some refreshingly frank and salient points about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. In a recent article posted on the site, Leslie H. Gelb writes:

“But let’s stop kidding ourselves: No sane leaders anywhere in the world would trust their security to the word of people who are publicly committed to their destruction and who have actually been trying to destroy them for half a century. Palestinians and Arabs will have to understand that they must make some serious concessions on security matters and on verification in order to give Israelis the necessary confidence to establish the two-state solution they desire.”

Gelb adds:

“Arab leaders committed far greater atrocities on Arab people than the Israelis ever committed upon the Palestinians. Who among them condemned Saddam Hussein’s atrocities over the years? Which of their leaders has raised the alarms about the most serious human-rights violations in Iran? And who among these Arab humanitarians have condemned the horrible treatment of women in so many Muslim societies? The daily treatment of women throughout a good deal of the Arab world is far worse than the Israeli treatment of Palestinians. The Israelis are no angels in how they treat the Palestinians, but their record is far, far better than how most Arab leaders treat their own people.”

Please ask Mr. Rieckhoff to weigh in on this topic. Why are these views important for American veterans and his organization? Does this position impact American's role in regional conflicts such as Iraq as well as in covert ops most surely going on in Iran and other countries?

I wonder if this post is sufficiently liberal for WNYC? We shall see.
