Name for Albany State Senate Mess: Harumph on the Hudson
The Gang that Couldn't Think Straight
Albany Anomie?
Just to reiterate.
This call for lowest common demoninator feedback is beneath the standards of WNYC. I know Laura Walker loves it. Brian, honestly, you can do better. Please don't bow to this stupid trend. I think you are earning your considerable salary but with THIS kind of crap I begin to doubt it.
Albany Agonistes
N(ew)Y(ork)S(tate)S(enate)functional or NYSSfunctional.
How about I R S (Incompetence Reigns Supreme) or S A W O , Self-Agrandizement Wins Out. Brian, you seem a resonable and intelligent man, but you are a bit naive. Espada, Monserrat and the rest of them are not in politics for me, for you or anyone but themselves. The myth of representative government is just that - a fiction. These people, our government, are out to help themselves. If we are lucky, very lucky, we get dragged along on their dirty coat-tails. "The People" is an invention, they use it as a cover for their selfishness...no more, no less.
Tony's right - you're starting to make California look competent.
I vote for CH of Staten Island with the litterbox comment. Nice.
Given what I think of this lot, how about the Calm Before the Storm? But that would require that some entirely justified wholesale slaughter of this lot take place. That would certainly clear up the problem. Clear a little room at the trough at the least, too, eh?

I've finally figured out what I'm gonna call it: "How I'll Get My Next Job"
These yutzes have got to go. And considering the mess they're making, I couldn't possibly do any worse.
Empire of the Dumb.
Recallbany.
The Albany Shuffle.
A-holes With a Capitol Albany
To Brian Lehrer: Did you write the intro to this segment? I was amazaed that you seemed to be saying that, for sure, Montserrat had lied during his interview with you. Only toward the end did you show any realization that Montserrat may have been lied to by Espada.
What was with that intro? Not like you.
Or do you know something the public doesn't? (And I have no dog in this fight; both Dems seem dodgy to me.)
I figured that there was a 50-50 chance that either Montserrat was lying or Espada was lying or --maybe?-- both were?
I note Brian is now asking another guest if the guest knows anything about this. Clear since January that Espada was not for the same things on rent control as the rest of the Dems. Real estate lobby got Liz Kruger away from chairmanship and put Espada there. OKaaaay.
(My spelling of names may be off a bit....)
The only news here is the incredible ineptitude of the people we sent to Albany. These Senators are either corrupt or idiots.
Still can't tell where they stand on letting landlords flips apartments to market rates when a tenant vacates a regulated/controlled apartment. Sounds like they all want to have a meetings and make an agreement.
Sheesh. At least they're merely ineffective, and not committed to ruining the state, as their California counterparts seems to be...
How about the Greed Revolution?

Name for the Albany goings on: ALBANY FOLLIES
You know what this is like -- Iraq after the fall the Saddam. After years of being powerless under repressive rule, once they were liberated and free to act on their own, the various factions had no idea what to do and went completely berzerk. That's pretty much what's happening in Albany.
Voter #61 - Unfortunately you will not be voting him out - We don't get a choice on who to vote for. The Democratic and Republican mafias have allocated/distributed the districts for themselves so that these maggots run unchallenged. So you either 'vote' fo the idiot on the ballot or you don't vote.
The Elections Board should at least provide an "OTHER" choice.
My name for the current situation:
Dawn in Albany.
Finally there is some light in Albany. The situation has been pathetic for years with bipartisan resistance to reform. Now that New Yorkers have finally noticed that we have a state government, the GOP introduces some reforms.
It's time for the citizens of this state to take back control from the bipartisan team of thugs, felons and deadwood. It's time for incumbents to face tough questions from their constituents about what they've been doing up in Albany.
(Also, I've always mistrusted Paterson. Anyone who has thrived in the Senate must be looked at with suspicion.)
How about STALLBANY or SMALLBANY?
How about "Just Deserts"- we elected these bozos.
Chaos in the Capital
Alabanistan politics
Not a joke: How about a major recall effort?
Even worse than California!
Cacalbany.
I don't understand how all of these legislators keep saying that NYC gets money from Long Island or that all of the law are for NYC. For one NYC gets back something around 2 dollars for every 3 dollar given to the state, so how can we get money from long island. We should get money from long island though because long islanders use NYC facilities where as we don't use theirs. This goes for most of the state.
Call it "Throw the bums out!"
Albanamok
The Albaniad
An analyst on CH 13 on a Saturday program said that the Repub Senate takeover vote required that 4 copies of the proposed whatever it was (resolution? bill?) were supposed to be distributed to the leaders of the Senate (other two I'm not sure about) x-amount of time prior to the actual vote. That did not happen.
Then the Repubs, post vote, said their whatever it was that was voted on was a "personal order" or something personal. I was busy, couldn't listen all that carefully.
I figured WNYC would cover the actual parliamentary rules which were applicable.
Can that be done?
Do any readers/listeners know the parliamentary rules which apply to this?
Brian,
great job with Padavan.
Todd
Call it "Just Another Day in Albany."
The state legislature is filled ignorant and corrupt people, especially from NYC. Few of them can even speak the "King's English." How do these people get elected? What happened to electing people that are smart and educated? Not too smart for our own good like the Bama and his group of future federal penitentiary inmates, but smart enough to pass a rent control bill that allows the prosecution of frauds and cheats like Charlie Rangel who current lives in 4 rent controlled apartments at once. What you libs put up with in exchange for the promise of crumbs is laughable for you and sad for the silent majority that has to put up with and pay for this nonsense.
Can't decide between "shameful" or "business as usual".
Bryan this is your show, require a straight answer, and don't give them a platform for there B.S.!!
New York State of Whine
I just looked up who my State Senator is. It's Bill Perkins. Good to know who I'm going to vote out.
small-minded selfish politics gate.
ALBALONEY!
It would be great if you guys stop interrupting each other!
I TAKE MR. PADAVAN'S HIGHMINDED HOLDING OUT FOR IMMEDIATE REFORMS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THE REPUBLICANS COULD HAVE PASSED THESE REFORMS DURING THEIR 40 YEARS OF SENATE CONTROL
brian - you're missing the point - they can take another leadership vote, but in the meantime, he's saying you have to honor the vote that happened last week. I don't necessarily like it, but that's the deal.
Albany Peter Principle
Keep Guantanamo OPEN!. - Torture is gone but keep facilities as is and lets charter a flight to take ALL of our state/city politicians to an all expenses paid, unending vacation in tropical paradise (as confirmed by Miss Universe and Republican US senators)!.
We, the NY taxpayer and citizens would be much richer and prosperous. !
"the empire state strikes out!"
Low-Fiber Legislation
It's a Constipational Crisis!
The Dems also offered to *negotiate* the power-sharing arrangement
NONE of these clowns in Albany tell the truth.
NONE of them have the best interest of the public at heart.
ALL of them are criminals, siphoning taxpayer money to line their pockets.
NONE of them can answer a simple yes or no question no matter how many times Brian asks one.
They are the very epitome of weasels.
I say we call it "The Weasel's Dance Party", or "The Criminal's Headbutting Extravaganza".

What is this, "The Takeaway"? I don't listen to Brian Lehrer to hear stupid attempts at humor, I listen for a reasoned and intelligent analysis. Brian, keep away from John Hockenberry, you're getting infected. Did you see Jon Stewart's comments about CNN last night? Just Stop It Please.

3 Headlines...
'A tale of two idiots' (The Post)
'The inmates are running... for re-election' (The Times)
'Congress shall make a law respecting an establishment of sanity, and prohibiting the free exercise of state senators to serve their own interests; and abridging the freedom of state senators to make decisions that halt all due process of the people's business; and enable the people to forcibly compel state senators to peaceably assemble IN THE ASSEMBLY. We THE CITIZENS OF NEW YORK STATE reserve the right to petition the Governor of New York State to serve a Writ of Habeas Corpus for all state senators for a redress of the grief they have given us. (The Nieu Yorka)
Brian, you are right they don't want to vote on the bills as it would displease both the landlords and the Catholic church.
Empire (State) in Crisis.
Albany our albatross
Albany the banal Albania?
Sorry about the double-post - I'll make up for it with a Spanish name for the situation: Espada en la Espalda (lit. "A spade in the back")
Just as it might have been expected that Madoff would make it off with your money, those who are bilingual could have predicted that Espada would backstub his colleages.
Call it Idiotgate. Clearly the inmates are running the asylum. This is a total disgrace. Are you aware that Republican trickster Roger Stone had a role in this? What does he care about actual legislation when he could amuse himself by creating turmoil in NY State politics. And those two corrupt fools Espada and Montserrat drank the kool aid.
I have a quick question. Are the Legislator's being paid this week and last? If so they should be forced to give it back since they are not working.
Obviously, New York doesn't need a Senate. it is even detrimental to the state to have one.
revise the constitution to eliminate it; impose a 10 year term limit on the Assembly; and save a ton of TRULY wasted money.

Similar to Adam's comment; Very much like hearing a bunch of immature teenagers in an argument and not listening to each other.
It's obvious there is only one name that fits: The Albany Assholes.
I'd call this situation a number of things, but since it might be read on air, I'll just mention the "clean" ones...
