Details continue to emerge about the corruption scandal that has implicated the mayors of Hoboken and Secaucus, two state assemblymen, five rabbis and dozens of others. WNYC's Bob Hennelly is reporting the story.
I wonder how this scandal may affect the growing tide of antisemitism. Should we be angrier that our political leaders or our spiritual ones misused our trust. I found an interesting discussion of the matter at pandalous: It’s here: http://www.pandalous.com/topic/how_to_deal_with

This is nothing new. I grew up in Hudson County and was a reporter in the '60s for the Hudson Dispatch. My husband owned the diner across the street from the old Dispatch building. He had to grease palms in order to keep the diner open and keep the police happy, too. There was a bookie next door who ran a nice sized illegal betting parlor disguised as a travel agency. He got a phone call whenever the Feds were coming to town from Union City Hall. That's when he'd take a vacation for two or three weeks.
When I worked for the Dispatch, I covered the beginning of the scandal that began with the trees on Kennedy Blvd. in Jersey City being declared diseased so someone could get a contract to cut them down. A group of citizens got together and hired a tree expert who found there was absolutely nothing wrong with the trees. The corruption uncovered ended eventually with 22 federal indictments and 11 convictions including Cornelius Gallegher, congressman from Bayonne.
Some things never change.

In Newsweek, Jeneen Interlandi, says: "[Nancy] Scheper-Hughes has confronted at least three U.S. hospitals with evidence that their surgeons have been transplanting illegally brokered kidneys. Her field notes include the names of several people picked up in yesterday's raid─people whose charity organizations purported to pair altruistic donors with dialysis patients in need, and who had close working relationships with some very good U.S. hospitals."
Yet where is the investigation?
Why has the story dropped off the earth?
Will there be follow-up about her video showing an illegal transplant in an identified hospital with identifiable doctors?

Money-laundering and some rabbis have a long-standing tradition going back centuries. Jews had to learn how to move their wealth from place to place without arousing suspicion. The old diamond trade in Antwerp was a Jewish industry, and much of the diamond trade is still in Jewish hands. In centuries past, merchants and even noblemen used these orthodox Jews as couriers to get past borders, because they could be trusted to deliver the money or diamonds for a fee. Since it was a service useful to many high ranking nobles in many countries, these orthodox rabbis in the diamond trade were usually allowed unmolested to pass through without too much examination into what they were carrying. This is still the case, as many travellers will note. Unfortunately, this shadow system of money-laundering has been recently used to smuggle bribes and unpaid taxes and other unlawful monies, probably because the diamond business isn't what it used to be. Since it is an old business that many in the hassidic community had been accustomed to, it now may come as a shock to do some soul-searching and realize that what they are doing, even if it useful to unscrupulous politicians, is ILLEGAL and funds today must go through the bnnafide, legitimate banking system. They will no longer be protected by the politicos they had once so faithfully served - for a fee, of course.

Another fine moment for the Democrat Party as dozens of Dem pols and their gang members get busted. Is the Obama admin now targeting Rabbis and Israel to soften American support in advance of the Bama and Hillary throwing Israel under the bus?
POLITICIANS ARRESTED IN NEW JERSEY CORRUPTION CASE
Fm Belfast (NI) Examiner Friday, 24 July 2009
Several politicians and rabbis are among more than 40 people arrested as part of an investigation into money-laundering and political corruption in the US state of New Jersey.
Prosecutors say the inquiry initially focused on a money-laundering network operating between New York, New Jersey and Israel.
An informant in that case was then used to target politicians suspected of corrupt activity.
The 44 people arrested as part of the investigation include several city mayors in New Jersey and two state assemblymen.
Five rabbis from New York and New Jersey have also been detained, along with fire inspectors and other officials.

You have to wonder how the "shadow" financing world contributes to poor development and over development. It seems that all you would really have to do is to look at poorly thought out and poorly executed development projects to find more corruption.
