NPR’s Power, Money & Influence correspondent Peter Overby follows up on the healthcare lobbyist photo project and reports on the competing interests at play in reforming healthcare.
PS -- many states are already in an interstate compact where a person can already carry a gun from state to state. The new bill is merely a logical extension of such.
Since you raised Gun Control in this segment, here is the truth: (1) about 95 million people in this country legally own fire arms, few of them commit crime. (2) Most (40) states have "liberal" concealed carry rules. These states have lower crime rates than Democrat states where there are fewer guns. (3) Some states have no requirement at all and some states have "open" carry rules... yes you can still wear a gun on your hip like the "cow-people" in olden days, and guess what, people are very polite and crime is low. (4) now in a few of those states some crime is up due to illegal aliens and drug gangs, but they are already criminals. (5) Most importantly -- if you want your driver’s license and gay marriage certificate to be recognized in all fifty states, then you will have to recognize other people’s concealed carry permits. Laws need to be applied across the board. It’s just a basic part of civil rights.
The difference between public advocate groups and industry lobbying is that the public advocates don't also bribe congress members with "campaign contributions."
My question: this bill is turning into a Rube Goldberg contraption the blame for which, if it fails, will be pinned on President Obama. The Republicans want it to fail, for political reasons, and the "Yellowdog" Dems are on Big Health's payroll.
Don't we have 51 Democratic Senators who will vote for an expansion of Medicare -- the single payer plan that more than 3/4 of Americans support? Why not forget about a compromise bill -- The Monster -- and do single-payer Medicare via the reconciliation process?
People say "it can't be done," but that is just received wisdom at this point. Why not? People want this. Don't we have 50 votes (Biden is 51).

The Commonwealth Fund FDN has a report that should be on the table. It projects savings contrary to the CBO.

Why is it even legal for interested parties in legislation to contribute large sums to legislators who make policy on their issues?
A judge would be expected to recuse herself if she had a financial interest in a case.
Why is it different for legislators?
