Yes, Thank you for remembering Frank. But, also, thank you, thank you, America for giving this Irishman a second chance in life. Ireland gave him the grief and the words, but New York and its generous heart gave him an adult life of hope and twelve years of beautiful New York fame. Thank you, Frank. Thank you, America.

Thank you so much for remembering Frank McCourt today and for playing the excerpt from your interview with him on 9/11/03. I always hoped I would never have to hear that he had died. But now that he has, it's comforting to know others valued him as I did.

This is ironic.
Frank McCourt is lionized. But he struck an inattentive student over the head with a rolled up magazine.
Had he been a teacher under Joel Klein, he would have been put in a teacher reassignment center ("rubber room"). Alas, adulation for McCourt, yet silence over Klein's abuse of power, allowing principals to send teachers to rubber rooms, for years, with no due process, for merely whistleblowing or running afoul of the principal's personal preferences. The media should address the sky-rocketing number of "reassigned teachers," an increase which happened under Klein. Bring back diverse control of schools, for sunshine truth exposure of principal's unfettered power under Klein.
