I'm having trouble believing what Viet Dinh is saying after all that's happened since the USA PATRIOT Act went into effect. He's proud of the way it was rushed through Congress without enough time to look at all its provisions? He thinks it was a good thing that everyone was up 24/7 reading it over? Sleeplessness is not exactly conducive to good judgment, & it showed in what was allowed to go into the Act. Someone held in detention challenged it & the part that allowed his detention was overturned as unconstitutional? He should never have been detained & had to go through that in the 1st place!

Would he be interested in a position on the Supreme Court if nominated?

I think what bothers me most about his arguments is his projection of what we wanted out of government. I just don't want the same things he wants with this country - namely trading protection and liberty. These decisions were made higher up without much public discussion. I just don't feel like I can see eye to eye with him.

Tell your guest that warrant less wire tapping is not constitutional and if he thinks it's ok then maybe he should work for Russia, or China. This is the USA. Has everyone forgotten what we stand for? I haven't.

Has your guest read the recent Malcolm Gladwell book, "Outliers?" There is a wonderful chapter on education and he claims (and I agree as an Ex-British teacher) that basically children do not spend enough time in school. He compares countries and as one would expect, the Asian countries do much better in math. He also highlilghts a school in the Bronx, the KIPP Academy which turns out children with wonderful skills. They start earlier, they work longer hours and they do not have such a long summer, when children lose so many important skills
