relative to other American novelists of his generation, John Updike journeyed along the road less travelled.
like Issac Bashevis Singer, Updike knew how to tell a story (regardless of the reservations certain crtics had about his ouvre).
alas, we probably won't see his like again in our lifetime.

Brian,
You just mentioned Poster Boy.
As a serious reporter, you have to realize that poster boy is actually hundreds of different people. Since the NBC outdoor stopped wheatpasting, the posters are much easier to collage.
Shantrel Thoreau is another subway collagist I love. Here is her website - I think she just recently started posting pieces:
