I did not say do nothing. I said be careful. Consolidating may or may not be the best thing is all cases. The system really dropped the ball on my son at a critical stage. Their response: There will always be glitches. Sorry, but two years in the life of a five-year-old is an eternity, not a glitch.

or do smart consolidating. schools need to cut admin costs to spend more on teaching!

You have to be careful when you do this. When NYC folded its districts into "regions" they did not keep enough support staff. You had people suddenly doing the work for three districts instead of one. The ball got dropped on a number of things including, notably special ed.

re: consolidating school districts -- I say go for it! It is ridiculous to have so many school districts with their duplicated administrative costs. I'm in Syosset... let's consolidate with Cold Spring Harbor, Oyster Bay and/or Jericho.
