Ken Walsh, chief White House correspondent for U.S.News & World Report, reviews the latest on the stimulus bill, the bank bailout and other news from Washington.
Does it worry anyone else that 3 of the 4 Presidents Obama have been compared to this morning have either been assasinated or almost assasinated? Lincoln, Reagan and JFK Makes me worry.

Ken Walsh strives mightily to impose a formulaic even-handedness on the historical record in his account of efforts at bypartisanship in the new Obama administration.
It would be nice to remind everyone that, despite protestations of bipartisan spirit and disappointment at supposed exclusion by the Democrats, blanket GOP opposition to Obama's agenda is a feature, not a bug, in the GOP approach. An article in Saturday's New York Times reveals that Eric Cantor, the GOP whip, maintains close coordination with, and models his role after, none other than Newt Gingrich (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/us/politics/15cantor.html?ref=politics).
Let's not try too hard to be naive. We've all seen this movie before--with many of the same actors.

What exactly is Obama's 'problem' that you are referring to? He passed a bill nearly exactly as he asked for it!

I can't believe that anyone even still invites Peter King on for an opinion on anything. The man knows very little if anything about anything!! Beware, he wants Hillary's seat which will be up for election in 2 years.

Not to put too fine a point on it but your guest is an idiot? The government has 'nationalized' nearly 20 banks already this year.
Putting banks into receivership has been an accepted course of action for generations.
The true 'socialist' solution is to trickle out money to the banks in a way that ties Congress to the banking system for a long period of time. Nationalization is fast and effective.

I think Simon Johnson stated it right on Bill Moyer's Journal this week that the banks should be taken over by the government which is what the FDIC does with smaller banks and get rid of the BoD and the CEOs, CFOs etc who caused this to happen. Johnson is on the ball and and highly respected economist. If anyone here gets a chance listen to him on the PBS website Bill Moyer's Journal. He makes the point very well.

"To quote a stand-up comedian from a older generation, Mr. Steve Martin (now simply a movie star) used to say to his audiences, "Exxxxcusssse MEEEEEEE!"
Representative Peter King (R,NY) of New York complained on one of the 'talking head' shows sunday, that:
Republicans Left Out Of Stimulus Plan, that the stimulus bill that President Obama is expected to sign tomorrow doesn't include input from his party.
KING: This bill offers too many social programs, and by excluding house republicans it prevented it from being bipartisan. I'm hoping as we go forward with the housing and banking issues that there will be bipartisan cooperation from the start.
George Stephanopoulos (of ABC News) countered:
Only three Republicans, Congressman King, in the in the Senate, (and )zero in (the) House (supported the stimulus plan).
And I have to say, it -- it surprised me that zero Republicans in the House went along with this. And, for example, I know that you support infrastructure spending.
{Emp added...-- pause--pause--pause--continue}
I know you support Medicaid aid to the states, yet you -- you vote no on this. Was this more taking one for the team so the Republicans could be unified?

Brian,
I was wondering if you can bring a guest to discuss something that maybe linked to the high property taxes or other fees we pay today. I know that the topic is complicated and I don't want to over simplify it.
But, I did not know that the feds use to give aid to localities w/o strings years ago and it was done away with by Reagan.
