This is great, we need more of this. And I agree with Miles, we need to ask ourselves about our materialism.

This is important for parents to hear a professional ball player saying that a good, quality product can be had for a low price, especially in tough economic times.
I am 40 years old and have not less than five (5) pairs of Starbury's. I love them. At under $16.00 a pair they were a great value and I would have no issue buying a child the same, if I were a parent.
I grew up poor and in Newark, N.J., and was excited when my mother bought me a pair of sneakers that were not from the grocery store bin or Woolworth's. The first name brand sneakers that I owned were Pony's and the only reason that my mother bought them for me was because I was in 8th grade, had researched the sneakers at a number of downtown stores and was able to get them for 10% off at a store that sold bowling shoes. After that 8th grade year, I got a job and was able to use those earnings to supplement what my mother allocated for clothes, shoes or sneakers in order to get what I wanted. But even then, I was budget conscious and to this day, I am still a value shopper.
Please try to do a topic that discusses materialism, expectations and the economic realities with more regularity. Everyone needs to be reminded that we can do just fine with less (or what we have) and that it does not diminish the quaility of life or our self-worth.
