This comment is in response to Rick from Brooklyn and Patrick's comment about the ascendency of the right in Israeli politics and Lieberman as an openly racist politician. What people are not talking about is that the Arab political parties in the Knesset who are supposed to making policy within Israel were openly calling for Israel to not respond to the rocket attacks from Gaza that would continuously fall on southern Israeli residents. Lieberman has not problem with Arabs, but he does have a problem with Israeli Arabs who openly call for the destruction of the state of Israel. What would happen in the United States if a political party existed that promoted the idea of giving Texas back to Mexico and destroying democracy within America?

The Arabs in Israel do not join the army and frequently are involved in terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. Nobody talks about this, and only say that those who oppose this 5th column in Israeli society are themselves racist.

What type of "freedom" awaits when "freedom fighters" hide behind babies and in hospitals?

I was very disappointed to see that Brian did not challenge Mr. Tyler when he expressed the moral equivalency of Israeli defensive actions and terrorist bombings and rockets by the Arab residents of Gaza and the West Bank. To let this pass unchallenged suggests that Brian also shares the view expressed by Mr. Tyler.

the fate of the people of palestine should not be tied to the actions of any other nation.
should the US be held accountable for the actions of every english speaking nation?!

There can be no compromises with the Arabs. Most people are not even aware that Jordan was designated for the Arabs ("Palestinians") when the British had partitioned it. The Israeli people are more than willing to give the Palestinians their own state, but the Palestinians must be held accountable for their actions first and foremost.

Until the ARAB countries REALLY and truly remove the sanctions, there also can be no peace.

Here's a proposal.

If the arab countries REALLY want a ban on israeli products, they should also ban using:

Intel based computers.
(Microsoft) Windows (XP/Vista/V7/NT) based OS's.
The Windows (NT/XP/Vista) Arab language pack.
Checkpoint firewalls.
All firewalls. (invented by an Israeli).

and so on...
so. in reality, the boycott isn't real, but it reaally IS real.
\
and btw, maybe you need to boycott those things too...

Here's the deal. Until and UNLESS the ARAB parties (all of the countries) accept and SIGN the 1948 UN two state solution, there will NEVER be a peace.

The problems in the Mideast go back to the 1920's when Britian (and Sir Winston...) was in charge there (Sir Winston was the High Commissioner of the palestinian mandate...

Look here for lots of details http://markbnj.blogspot.com/2008/06/mideast-ultimate-peace-plan.html

The problem is that all the Middle East countries including Israel base their entire economies on war. Without economic reform there will never be peace in the Middle East.

It was refreshingly honest to hear Patrick Tyler pointing out that there are no Ghandi's in the middle east. The debate in this country seems to focus much too much around why arent Palestinians behaving the way we in the US want subject peoples to behave. Comments like "why aren't they renouncing violence" trivializes the massive state violence from Isreal that is at least as important a factor as terror in daily life in Isreal/Palestine. The notion of Isreal as the long suffering eternal victim is wearing very thin these days.

A million dead? Sorry don't think so, but no need to inflate the #'s even one dead is to many.
I think a million may have died due to the sanctions Bush 1 and Clinton kept in place and the UN exploited for their own gain.

Israel is not the holy land. Its the unholiest place on the planet. All the Godliness of that region obviously does not inspire peace and love , actually it breeds the opposite

Let me be the first to thank President Bush for gutting it out, keeping his commitment to free Iraq, hold free and open elections and then get the heck out.
It doesn't excuse the horrible mishandling of the post catastrophic victory but thanks, it is about the only bright light in the ME these days.

I think we need to stop underwriting Israeli politics with the billions we send them ... especially if they start to advocate policies that might suggest ethnic clensing
