Wayne Barrett, senior editor at the Village Voice, talks about State Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver's connections to the appointment of Jonathan Lippman as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
So at the end of the day, it seems Barrett's main objections to Lippman, who he concedes upon Lehrer's prodding as being extremely well qualified, are of the bean counting variety...he isn't a Latino, or a women, or whatever else, beside which he's a friend of Shelly's.
Looks like the Legislature gave ole Wayne a collective "Up yours" by announcing 22-0 for right during the airing. Highly amusing.

Oh, Judge Lippman is a very corrupt judge. He is in charge of the attorney disciplinary comittee which is a disaster. Has anyone else tried to bring a complaint against a bad lawyer? It is useless. I have been trying to file a complaint for nearly a year, and nothing happens. They wont even aswer my letters. I complained about the DDC to Judge Lippman but nothing happened. My letters are not answered!

Barrett: "It should go to a jurist."
Agreed, BUT:
Lippman has more experience as a jurist than Judith Kaye had before she was apointed to the Court of Appeals.

Brian: You are wrong:
The Chief Justice of the United States runs the federal courts the same way that the Chief Judge of New York runs the New York courts.
