Singing in the Rain

Friday, February 06, 2009

The current economic situation has inspired several humorous musical and cultural responses.

Question of the Day:
Compose your own rhyme about the recession.

Crisis by Jane Sencer

It all began with the price of gas,
rising furiously, rising fast.

What happened next was not sublime,
re-set ARMs of sick subprimes.

Greedy bankers were free to roam,
exploiting slackers into homes.

Decreased values, increased doubt,
mortgage bubble bottoming out.

Lehman, Stearns, and A.I.G.,
lost my job, collecting UMB.

1st Bailout tops at 700 bil,
Congress/Senate raid the till.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul,
and all the market does is fall.

Global markets like global warming,
all the world ignored the warning.

2ND Bailout maybe 900 bil,
Yes we did, but can we still????

SEC sleepers let Madoff run wild,
making Ponzi’s scheme, seem like that of a child.

Now gas is lower, but unemployment higher,
cars are cheaper, but have no buyer.

No benefits, no penision, HOLY TOLEDO!
Get me a ledge, and a good strong mojito.

I don't have a rhyme but I do have a video created with a friend using the most original rhymes on the topic, "Hard Times" by Run-DMC!

In the video, we make "Recession Chili" to help folks make delicious food that won't break the bank.
