Brian, you're a genius. "The US Decade" is the only answer for the next decade. We need to acknowledge (again) that we're all in the same boat (planet Earth, for example), and get busy together.
Bunker Decade. Hmm. I call it the Coward Decade. A good example are the people who protest when we say we want to close Guantanamo and move the detainees to the US and to hold trials in New York.
I think your guests point is well made. we did retreat to our bunkers but it was largely justified. W revealed a division in this country that will be very hard to repair. It has been a politically disfunctional decade and a decade that has blown off the luster of the American spirit, and dream.
I'm just wondering if there is a silver lining in the cloud of this decade. Have we learned anything from what went on, and can we use it to not make the same mistakes again?
In Westchester citizens seem to be 'bunkering down' against illegal immigrants -- all while they continue to hire them to mow their lawns, rake their leaves, pave their driveways and clean their houses.
I'm just throwing this out there. Robert Smith of the Cure coined this term in 2002 or so. He referred to this decade as the Notties. After so much turmoil its starting seem very appropriate.

Given the prevalent influence of Fox News, especially Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, maybe it's the "Archie Bunker" decade...?
