Hi, I'm Jennifer, the caller on today's show about CUNY budget cuts, tuition hikes, and adjunct layoffs.
If there's anyone in the CUNY community who'd like to get involved in this work -- particularly CUNY alumni who might be here -- get in touch with us at cunycontingents at gmail.com.
Thanks!

That's a REALLY good point that the caller, Jennifer, just made: if the State Senate is really interested in cutting the budget, they should revoke the ridiculously stringent Rockefeller drug laws. That would help reduce the incoming prison population and get rid of a law that should have disappeared years ago. And I agree with Jennifer, who posted above, that David Paterson is to be appreciated by everyone in New York. He hit the ground running and is to be commended in his efforts to tackle New York's problems head-on. He hasn't been afraid to speak up and I for one appreciate his candor.

I still don't understand this constant demand that the average person has to "sacrifice" something. Teachers must do it, students must do it, housewives must do it, etc. What is Mike Bloomberg going to sacrifice? What is Henry Poulson going to sacrifice? What is George Bush or Dick Cheney going to sacrifice? Hell, what is Governor Patterson going to sacrifice?

My opinion is that David Paterson is the only grown up here and I appreciate him more and more every day.
